Ah well, it's a bit like this. Many, many views and opinions but none who are the ones who have to actually make the decisions.

I agree but we also don't know the complexities of dealing and communicating with all the states who are managing this. I would rather this than a website run by someone or organisation we don't know. Or indicates some of their sources as credible media reports.

There is a lot of data floating around and like any set of numbers, manipulated to suit ones agenda.

Hopefully health.gov.au website will be updated soon so we can see if the 460 number is continuing or just a spike.

It does appear the projections of 20,000 by April 1 will be around 400% wrong.

For NSW, they doubled the number of tests. That would have a flow on effect for the number of detections and negative results. How it reflects on the incidence in the community I'll leave to the statisticians.

Yeah, I don't envy those who are making the decisions and leading the response.

However the premiers announce the data every day in their daily morning press conferences. This data isn't added to the federal Department of Health figures until 11:59PM the following day. Surely you would agree this is a deliberate decision not to publish the data in a transparent way?

Apart from trashy tabloid outlets I don't recall projections of 20,000 by April 1.

glad to see when I went to supermarket today,
every shelf almost stocked, the key stuff was almost empty but it was good to see

this 1 item per person policy is working, and maybe the hoarders are running out of money or room

The shelves get very empty towards the end of the day around where I am. I haven't been in early yet.

    Yet the PM says differently
Coronavirus update: Australia's international arrivals head to quarantine hotels, PM says rate of new COVID-19 cases has fallen - ABC News

So it appears that absolute numbers have increased, the percentage rate as decreased.

The number of confirmed cases in NSW is double that of Victoria. The number of tests per head of population in NSW is double that of Victoria.

    So either
.NSW is doing more testing and so finding more cases
    Or
.NSW has to do more testing due to a larger number of overseas arrivals

Are there really people that are saying along the lines of "where is the helicopter to get me to Lima"; "where is the government-sponsored Qantas flight to get me home?", and "why should I pay more to get out of here"??

"Worse, some Australians boarded cruise ships after explicit government advice on March 9 against cruise travel, particularly for older travellers with health issues."

    thats pretty god damn stupid

    edit

apparently 5 star hotel isnt good enough either
Aussies complain about 5-star hotel quarantine

Perhaps, but given that it was just advice, anyone who chose not to go presumably would not be able to claim on insurance and would be liable for something like 75% of the cruise cost - and in most cases we're talking thousands, not a $499 Bali special. If the government had put a ban on going on cruises (perhaps excluding Australia-only) then presumably refund and/or insurance provisions would have cut in.

obviously it wasnt an outright ban like most governement advice on where not to travel, but they took a risk, and it didnt pay off, so I Would expect insurance to not cover it
