Unfortunately we haven't bought enough of the Pfizer vaccine...instead leaning heavily towards AZ and the UQ one.

That's hedging bets. Not putting a dependency on one single vaccine. It's probably a good strategy.

We should've placed orders for more variants including Moderna's.

Given how limited the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine is going to be due to the storage requirements - it's probably a sensible choice.

Enough for 5 million people since 2 shots required 28 days apart. Spain has 20M alloc (for 10M people), same per capita. First priority given to elderly & health workers which consumes 100% the allocation. The idea here is that the vax arrives in drums from manufacturer and the drum keeps it at -70 for 4 weeks somehow so local storage not needed.

Hopefully inovio gets clearance as their vaccine can be stored at room temperature

Refrigerated vaccines are fine - we have plenty of experience managing those in Australia.

Assuming it is as effective as Pfizer's - the AstraZeneca vaccine will be a better choice for mass-vaccination activities due to its longer (refrigerated) shelf life.

My guess is we'll see a combination - Pfizer's vaccine available from suitably equipped hospitals and dedicated vaccination clinics - while AstraZeneca's vaccine (or others) used for mobile mass vaccination clinics.

The big unknown still is how long the vaccines will be effective for - it's certainly not looking like a "lifetime" vaccine - more likely up to 1 year coverage.

Yeah it'll be a combo which is what the Gov's doing as someone said hedging bets. Pretty smart move any problems and they'll have back up.

Morrison went through numbers in a conference the other day it was almost embarrassing, felt like greedy Australia considering situations in other countries. But if even half of them work they'll still have more than enough.

Not sure its greed, rather hedging bets on supply and effectiveness.

The only form of greediness will come from anti-vaxxers jeopardizing the effectiveness of the programme.

Not necessarily- I am not an anti-Vaxxer, but won’t be getting the vaccine until I have to travel overseas. Why, because the vaccine will be approved with only 2 months safety data. People will have various reasons for not vaccinating. Not everyone gets the flu vac at the moment.

This pretty much covers everything that is currently going on regarding the vaccine's and where they're at:

Different vaccines will be effective for different age groups, so wise option

And hopefully they'll share the excess with our poorer Pacific neighbours

@trinity168 mentioned this earlier in the thread. Both stories quoted state that the sales were in accordance with a pre determined trading plan, adopted August 19 - a way for employees to sell shares without falling afoul of insider trading rules. I don't think there's anything untoward here.
