In which area of science does your scientist (is he a medical professional) practice?

Here is an article about the effectiveness of the flu vaccine that gives some scientific info:

The same vaccine that’s reported in the UK and yesterday’s papers , as not being available until end of 2021 , yet slomo is spruiking it’ll be ready by end of 2020

scomo is ****** , he’s all his chips down on a vaccine that won’t arrive (if it does at all) in his timeframes, he’ll have to reopen australia to the world before then , and it’s a message he won’t be able sell

rock and a hard place and no where to turn

God spare me from any event where there are that number of people - about 10 is my comfort level even without Covid.

Personally I have had the flu jab every year for the past 10 years or so - I have not caught it in that time although much of that period was working in classrooms.

Luckily I just got my hydroxychloroquine script filled before people start hoarding it again!

Can we believe the PM on this vaccine? Problem with Scomo is he is always so political, theirs always an undertone. But he is very confident about this vaccine along with Greg Hunt.

I don't buy it, but one can only hope.

Funny PB , yeah l don't trust him either , l'd trust the Brits to actually build a real vac but ahhh, ?????
It also struck me a bit strange he's talking about how much they're paying for it already.
But there ya go just heard on ACA , January, and not only but they're using two because one of the QLD vacs is also looking very good, be damned.

total **** show , just read the Uk media on where the vaccine is actually being made to understand he’s either making it up or it’s something more sinister and australia will approve early

If you really spend some time reading the full article, you may see how the statement is twisted to fit a hot headlines zzz

Yes agreed , but they also are giving interviews on tv spruiking the availability of a vaccine , that’s clearly not going to be available in their timeframe based on the manufactures advice

not at all, the UK CMO response was for Boris earlier statement - claiming UK can be back to normality by Winter 2020. CMO advised the following winter (2021) is a more reasonable expectation. Winter 2021 is simply for comparison in this Boris context rather than his specific timeline.

His main focus is warning Uk to not rely on vaccine in this flu season winter, not really providing any info about vaccine prediction, for example "if we look forward a year I think the chances are much greater than if we look forward six months"

Furthermore, what he really means to be achieved in a year is "mass use in a large percentage of the population", which is deliberately censored in many headlines to make it sounds he expects the vaccine can only be developed in a year.

If the covid trial only succeeds in Dec 2020, production may start in Jan 2021, adding another 6 months for distribution, this is exactly 1 year as his expectation. Nothing special in this CMO info.

Chris Whitty warns UK it's 'foolish' to expect coronavirus vaccine by Christmas
