Thought i'd add a thread about possible vaccines/treatments for Covid-19 as it seems like most threads are only concentrating on the daily negative news (deaths and number of cases). We are getting really close to at least finding some sort of a treatment, that is my believe.

Granted, a Covid-19 Vaccine is still a fair bit away but some existing vaccines are proving to be a good alternatives that might help controlling the Virus(second link below).

Below are a few videos from a youtube channel i've been following that has been posting some excellent educational videos about Covid-19.

Coronavirus Pandemic Update 42: Immunity to COVID-19 and is Reinfection Possible?

Coronavirus Pandemic Update 43: Shortages, Immunity, & Can a TB Vaccine (BCG) Help Prevent COVID-19?

Please add any links/videos as you see fit but keep it to treatments and vaccines.

There have been a few posts about possible cures and vaccines.

Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine (sold as plaquenil) have been touted, and there have been some early signs of success. My wife is taking this for rheumatoid arthritis, but recent pronouncements have created a big demand, and she's had to hunt down somebody who can fill in her prescription.

It's caused other problems as well

This post elsewhere in the forum, by a practicing doctor, is very good.

Thanks for that @geoffw. I actually put the question to see_change about treatments in another thread ... Things are changing daily as you'd know.

Good to hear your wife managed to get her prescription filled and hopefully the shortage won't last for long.

As fr the man dying, it's important to note that he self prescribed so no doctor prescription was involved in the matter. Makes a big difference.

A note from Standford Medical School
    COVID-19

Stanford Medicine was not involved in a widely circulating Google document or research paper suggesting that chloroquine is a potential treatment for COVID-19. Claims that we were involved are false.

And he self prescribed a fish medication!

Some people in Nigeria also were poisoned by self prescription.

It's not the medication which is the problem, it's the hysteria.

he said many obese people in US need much higher dosages

This is super encouraging. Ivermectin is an FDA-approved anti-parasitic drug used against viruses including HIV and influenza...

The FDA-approved Drug Ivermectin inhibits the replication of SARS-CoV-2 in vitro - ScienceDirect

    Highlights
    • Ivermectin is an inhibitor of the COVID-19 causative virus (SARS-CoV-2) in vitro.

    • A single treatment able to effect ∼5000-fold reduction in virus at 48h in cell culture.

    • Ivermectin is FDA-approved for parasitic infections, and therefore has a potential for repurposing.

    • Ivermectin is widely available, due to its inclusion on the WHO model list of essential medicines.

Which is the drug PaulF referred to in the previous post, although that wasn't evident from the headlines.

There are many possible treatments being investigated, I remember reading that there were something like 25 around the world, although I can't find the reference.

Others are using a different approach, using AI to screen 15,000 drugs
