I think we're close to having a problem anyway. Omicron is letter number 16, there are 24 letters available. So soon the variants are going to be sounding like a mathematics lesson or a US college fraternity.

Why do anti-vaxxers not lock their bikes? Because they know someone whose locked bike was still stolen.

    Tracking SARS-CoV-2 variants

"The established nomenclature systems for naming and tracking SARS-CoV-2 genetic lineages by GISAID, Nextstrain and Pango are currently and will remain in use by scientists and in scientific research. To assist with public discussions of variants, WHO convened a group of scientists from the WHO Virus Evolution Working Group (now called the Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution), the WHO COVID-19 reference laboratory network, representatives from GISAID, Nextstrain, Pango and additional experts in virological, microbial nomenclature and communication from several countries and agencies to consider easy-to-pronounce and non-stigmatising labels for VOI and VOC. At the present time, this expert group convened by WHO has recommended using letters of the Greek Alphabet, i.e., Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta which will be easier and more practical to be discussed by non-scientific audiences. "

One they run out of Greek designation it is intended to use nomenclature relating to animals, such as Woof, Moo and Baa.

I know people who won't have a vax because "God will look after them".

Yet they still look both ways when crossing the road.

It's just as well there were some before omicron. The letter just before that is nu - imagine wishing people a happy nu year.

    Would they have bat coronavirus?

Possibly but I'll be interested to see if they are going to use one regarding crow calls. You know the one.

You can tell that Schoolies is in full swing & the work experience person is in charge of Qld Health.

They've named a new strain of the Rona "Omicron-like".

If it were truly a Qld strain it'd be "Omicron-Ay".

Me too, or should I say this family too - I am back to being barred from going to the supermarket again as our local Coles was a 'hotspot' last Friday, when I wake, the grocery shopping has been done by my early bird daughter ... :D

If anything good has come out of C-19, it's been 'Click & Run' - I pick up from there carpark/counter. I hope that most shops keep this model.

Just an educational clarification for everyone.

The English translation of the Greek letter 'N' is incorrect, and it is not the letter just before 'Omicron'.

In Greek, the letter 'N' is pronounced 'Ni' (Ni sound as in the name Nick).

The reason for this error is that in Greek, the letter N is spelt 'nu'... but in Greek, the letter 'u' carries the English 'I' sound.

There are several other Greek letters which are incorrectly translated into English. One other example is the letter 'Xí' (which is the letter just before Omicron). In English, it is pronounced 'zi' which is incorrect. The letter 'Xi' is pronounced 'ksi'.

Hahahaha .. I'm usually rather bah humbug about Christmas (the pressure on a single day and associated commercialism) but this year am openly jealous of a friend who cannot return home as her son is covid positive

    She's loving it
