I read recently that the potency of Delta has increased the percentage required - to more like 80% or 90%.

Latest I heard was one shot wasn’t that great with delta but after 2nd , the immunity is better .

reality is that any figure is guess work . What ever the UK is at , obviously isn’t enough ….
They’ve just had their highest daily number in 4 months .

Yes, 11,007 new cases and 19 new deaths - United Kingdom COVID: 4,600,623 Cases and 127,945 Deaths - Worldometer . Of course every death matters, but the fact that we were looking at 2% or worse death rate last year and now it's <0.2% is something, presumably reflects the UK's high vaccination rate. Ironic that Cunard have cancelled their Australian summer cruise season and instead will be running cruises from UK.

Australia didn't close its borders earlier than the rest of the western world .. the "early hard closure" is a myth pushed by Australian politicians (a US politician was pushing it also).
Did close early just to China though but so did a lot of other countries including Italy (the first), and USA. Didn't help much.
After 3 1/2 months yes Australia stayed slammed shut while some countries opened for a few months, but before that not much difference.

My prediction is that Australia will remain remote and comparatively ( socially ) distant over the longer term. It will be less vulnerable due to location and space.

It will continue to defy sceptics and remain Lucky, lazy and naive about it's natural strengths.

The population will continue to display ignorance rowdiness disrespect and larrikinism.

Poppies that grow too tall will be cut down. The second verse of the national anthem will be more forgotten than ever and Don Bradmans average will never be forgotten.

Koalas will make a comeback and crocodiles will only eat poms. sharks will follow lead of crocodiles.

This will lead to a resurgence of dropbears and the destructive effects of the glacial worm.

I don’t necessarily think so. Australia hasn’t approved lots of vaccines yet - many of which are in use in the USA and other countries.

    Today, July 2021

Australia now have half country in lockdown

Syd may be in lockdown till Sept…what media is saying. Clearly, different rules for East and West….

Only 11% vaccinated to date , compared to 50% in USA and Europe, who is now wearing egg on face:(

1 in 3 will not vaccinate due to no confidence in government, information, vaccine and strategy

50% now saying lockdowns, zero covid is the wrong strategy for healthy people, economy, mental health

    Divide is growing

Property market …..???? Who knows market sentiment may go from positive to negative.

It seems people are getting on board with the idea of vaccination being the way forward, to be able to reopen.

And the more recent outbreaks seem to be pushing people to get off the fence and book a vaccination.

It was predicted a while back in one of these COVID threads that a decent outbreak will drive up demand for vaccination.
