Say down for lunch ... a homemade vegetarian lasagne, made with a base of homemade pumpkin soup, as part of my hunkering down a make do ... and watching the health minister update on ABC

Very impressed at the clear, detailed and concise information ... the leaving of specialist advice to the specialists to deliver ... and the genuine concern for the populous

Except Adam knew he was never going to lose 30% and can legitimately say later, "wow those policies worked so well, we kept our income up".

PM just on TV patting himself on the back...under the heading of "breaking news" A full timeline of what he has done in the past 10 weeks Why would he do that? Cant believe it. His presentation method is to give himself a big wrap before he discusses any new initiatives, if there are any. Now we have him telling us to stay home, that is the Govt update. Cant watch him anymore, I would rather listen to the state premiers who speak with conviction and authority. I didn't rate Peter Gutwein but he is standing up big time. Christian Porter has been invisible- just a political ladder climber.

I don't watch him. Better just to get the state updates in written summary

Or Adam just closes up shop and has a 4 week holiday at home catching up on chores !
This proves a "loss" of income (and keeps his partner happy).

Adam continues to pay his 2 staff a reduced "stood down" wage/retainer of $1500 each per week (the total Govco allowance, so it costs Adam $0 ) so he isn't out of pocket 1 cent........

    Win-Win for Adam
(except who is going to pay for all of these handouts ? )

The contradictions are interesting - little Johnny and Billy can’t hang out with their school friends or visit their cousins but Scomo says going to school is ok?

All schools will be open to care for essential workers children - what this means and how it looks is yet to be detailed. Will there be normal classes or just babysitting? Or will all children be expected at school - but parents can choose to keep them home?

What about teachers’ health in these situations - exposure to multiple children - depending on the school - they may come from a wide geographical area, may not have followed the lockdown rules, plus double the workload for staff - those at school and those remote?
Essential workers can’t take ‘carer’s’ leave in this situation to look after their own kids - unless their own kids are sick - because the gov is keeping schools and childcare centres open to care for them.
Yes, it is great that essential workers still have their jobs but at what cost to their physical and mental health?

I know of people in the medical field who are exhausted from each days work - people stealing sanitiser, abusing them, not social distancing etc. Could the government give them $1500 and a fortnight’s rest to rejuvenate?

I still can't get over the ruby princess cruise debacle,

10 out of the 30 odd deaths in Aus were on that cruise ship,
Who, knows how many they actually infected

As far as border security is concerned are not the ABF supposed to be the lead agency for all these matters. why did they not take a more proactive roll right from the very start , the entire organisation seemed to be completely unprepared, passengers were just allowed to walk through the backdoor(U.S.A) for weeks
Even while all this was going on Peter Dutton seamed quite busy jetting of the the U.S.A and not dealing with the current threat.
Why was the entire leadership not actively trying to deal with the biggest disaster to hit the Australian economy since the depression. We already knew China had locked down a population of over 10 millions people , and it was still spreading ,and by mid/late Febuary was in Iran ,South Korea and Italy.
We apparently have these multi-billion dollar super agencies that were created a few years ago that were completely unprepared to deal with the threats, and just let them walk straight into the country.

I dont exactly know the rules/protocol for this but knowingly letting infected people off the ship is absolutely ludicrous, I personally dont care whether anyone is punished or charged or sued, however, given that 1/3 of our deaths are from that ship, I would hope to no end that a similar situation doesnt happen with the numerous ships floating on our coastline trying to dock

Plus Princess Cruises, their owner Carnival Corporation and the Australian Government all had a taste of what was to come, from 1st February with the Diamond Princess in Japan.

Did they all just ignored this HUGE warning bells?

All of this has done huge damage to the reputation and the business operations of cruise companies.

One wonders how many will sink as a result of all of this.

    Horrendous

How could they have let the ship in after Yokohama?

And who are these state government ministers at the start who said kids should be going to school?

Lastly, hanging out landlords to dry but too scared to take on Gandel. Disgusting

Nothing to do with the ABF, they are responsible for immigration and Contraband, they are not doctors. NSW Health was directly responsible.

Generally I think the government has done a very good job. No doubt they'll have made mistakes, but I think Australia will come out of this a lot better than most countries.

There's one thing I don't think any country has handled well at all. Cruise ships. Almost every country has at some level denied responsibility or assistance. The treatment of this has only made matter worse.

An outbreak of an infectious disease on a ship means a lot of people get infected. The longer you leave people on the ship the worse it gets. Every government knows this.

The worlds response has been to tell the ships to go elsewhere or at best to let them dock but only take those confirmed cases off the ship for treatment. This guarantees that almost everyone on the ship will get sick sooner or later.

Collectively the worlds response has been one of, "Not in my backyard". Even where their own citizens are involved.

The right thing to do would be to get everyone off the ship as quickly as possible and into isolation. We've already demonstrated we can accommodate thousands in hotel rooms for 2 weeks, there's been other similar options available right from the beginning as well.

This would mean that those who are sick are easily identified and most would never get sick. Instead of a thousand cases or more, a few dozen might need to be dealt with. The rest would be cleared in a fortnight.

Paying for this would have been simple. Charge the accommodation costs back to the ship owners and hold their ship as collateral until the bill is paid. It would be a lot cheaper than the mess that's been created.

It would also be much less of a humanitarian disaster.

The started that cruise in the 2n week of March when the Diamond Princes was already on the news for weeks. What was the cruise company thinking? And on top of that, what were the passengers thinking?

Most were old and in the 'vulnerable' category and still chose to roll the dice. Why??

Because they already knew what's ever happened they will be looked after and not dumped on Xmas Island or any other detention centres ;)

btw our relatives did cancel the cruise trip in early March as we did not want to take any risks

Guess the one's that went ahead had a 'she'll be right' mentality. Fatal decision for some.
