Hi fancy team members I have a problem with cornice... I cant stand the standard generic cove stuff! What are your favourites to use and also how/where do you go to match cornice to renovation styles etc. Boral has about half a dozen which shortens the list which is nice, but ive also been looking at these guys Plaster Cornices Sydney and Ceiling Cornices and they just blow my mind with the work they do ...im not at that level!! or the budget! I have used liner and 4 step for our last reno which was more modern feel. Next reno is a 50's shack which we'll go for a modern feel but keep some of the (minimal) features, one is the cornice. In one room there is an ugly old style that i rememeber from my grandparents kitchen - post ww2 house in sydney. The way the layout changes we'll be getting rid of it so im starting to research a replacement.
I like 2/3/4 step. We use mailnly 2 and 3 step based on what will fit. For instance bathroom we are currently fixing the ceiling has 2 step as that is all that fitted between ceiling and top of window frame. If we are doing whole rooms in units then we use 3 step. Reason we use the step profile apart from looking good ss that we can very easily accommodate corners that are not a true 90 degrees.
Are you saying the cornice in the pics is the ugly old style?? It's the same profile as the gyprock 'alto'. I really like it and think it can be viewed as modern.. we used the 'aria' profile, very similar to alto, in our last reno and was really happy with the result.. suited a modern 'shaker' style.
@bob shovel - I used the art deco on our place, I needed a cornice to set off the light fitting that we built the house around.
In my Victorian renos I'm a huge fan of this one: Cornice VRC170 here's a pic of it. Otherwise for more contemporary I like a 'stepped cove' type of design: Cornice VRC103
