How viable would this? It's a bit left field thinking and as we all know land prices is the real killer when it comes to real estate, but would this potentially solve housing issues for those that can afford housing? Quite inspired by the Muji House (Japanese no frills brand).

I would envisage the following benefits:

    - Small footprint but enough comfortable living, could be relatively cheap to fit out/recycle older containers.
    - Attractive enough if done right.
    - Modular.
    - Flexible enough to move if required

Would it be big enough to fit a 1 bedder with a toilet/shower and kitchen?

How many container homes you need to retire before 40 you reckon?

Nah, purely thinking for Not For Profit organisations to house people in.

If we dont like them we can always conveniently ship them offshore LOL

Containers are not a great shape for living - very narrow. They need a lot of insulation etc.

There was an article in Renew or Sanctuary that compared the cost of fitting out a container, compared to building a simple insulated and clad building of similar size. It was cheaper to build it in wood!

    The containers or the homeless?

PS It worked well for Britain in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries.

Biz, here's an idea that could potentially be turned into a nice money spinner:

It's already happening. Just not quite in the post apolyptic vibe mentioned in the video. Student accom around the country is being made with containers...

Prefab student housing made from shipping containers
