Any news on what the composition of the new senate (from 1st July) will look like?

What are the chances of LNP's tax cuts (for all Australians) getting through?

    Cheers,
    Oracle.

It's looking like a Greens balance of power, with Greens set to retain their existing seats but with an increase in primary votes.

Final results though could be weeks away. The counting is extremely complicated, of course. Just apart from sorting, counting and distributing preferences for above the line vs below the line, there's also the extra difficulty of determining formality of votes.

Looks like it may be Labor and Greens, which means we can probably look forward to three more years of nothing being achieved in Parliament other than a lot of time wasting and finger pointing. Liberals will try to pass policy, Senate will knock it back, but Morrison won't want to risk pulling a double dissolution trigger. This will wear very thin very quickly, so I'd say we're looking at LibSpill 2020, with Dutton taking the leadership. I also think Labor will start hounding about section 44, repeatedly, especially over Dutton.

The government has been able to work with the Senate to pass legislation many times in the past - and even with the House recently. Legislation has been passed much more often than not - sometimes the government has to work to make the legislation acceptable, which can be a good thing.

    Just looking at 2018
