Did you happen to get any rejections from fellow occupants of the building against removing the load bearing wall?

Yes I had 1 lady who was below this unit. But before I attended the strata meeting I went to a couple of the renovated units in the block and found 2 others removed walls. So I used their examples to strengthen my case. I also obtained a structural engineers report how to remove the walls safely. So I was ready for her at the strata meeting. She did pipe up at the meeting to object but then my barrage of 'evidence' overwhelmed her and she sat back down quietly. It was approved.

We had nobody in our unit complex that did it prior so in addition to providing engineer reports the Strata Manager asked for some Dilapidation reports. We had no such luck so paid for them and did it. In a way it also provided security of proof for us, in case someone later would claim their cracks were the cause of our works?
    Later others renovating followed us....

Some people have nothing else better to do in life but complain. Neighbours already complaining of the noise, even AFTER they have been notified way in advance.

One guy I was told stormed in the unit to demand the builder stop work. He was promptly told by the builder to get off his site... with perhaps an expletive added.

Too many losers in life with nothing to do.

Such is life, just let time do its thing, it will past.
We actually drilled a hole through to the unit below, the concrete thickness differed between the actual apartments in comparison to staircases/corridors. Then we had to stop work. Luckily below the tenant was from the army and away, so we then had to fix just his ceiling in addition, that's all.
So don't worry worse things than that can happen in life, I wouldn't lose sleep about people, just being people!
Another incident I remember, we were changing outdoor tiles outside a pool, the land was high up so the neighbour was at least 20 meters down, water was dripping to their garden below, so they notified the council sheriff that we need to catch the water so it doesn't drip to their garden below...unbelievable. I wonder where the water was supposed to drip, up to the sky...?

linen cupboard to be braced and gyprocked up as the other side is where the 2 walls will be taken down to make the kitchen larger. There will be plenty of storage in 2 built ins. To sacrifice it for a bigger kitchen is worth it.

What was in your laundry? Vinyl / Lino? Is that asbestos glue on the floor?

The old lino was removed and under that looks like even older vinyl. Not sure re asbestos glue I'll ask the builder.

Agree with the laundry sacrifice for bigger more open kitchen, many times worth it! We opened the kitchen too and the previous entry door was built up into a linen cupboard for storage.
Laundry in our case was in the garage so we renovated there.

It's not the laundry that's making the sacrifice, it's the linen cupboard .

Sorry, agree, kitchen is higher priority than linen cupboard, and often they sell places!
