    Pardon silly question. I need an swb upgraded as it's currently has a rewireable fused + cracked board.
    Got 2 quotes, once cheaper but I'm not quite sure if they're covering the same thing? I am ok to pay the additional if it's better in the long term.

    Quote 1 approx. $800
    Replace existing re- wirable fuse panel with new weather-proof circuit breaker enclosure.
    Works include;
    *Disconnect and remove existing fuse panel.
    *Install PVC enclosure to extend cabling as required to new weather proof circuit breaker enclosure. Photo
    attached.
    *Install and connect circuit breaker / safety switch combo switches to required circuits.
    *Install circuit breakers to other circuits.
    *Install conduit to cables for mechanical protection coming from bottom of fuse panel. Photo attached.
    Note;
    -No allowance has been made to upgrade the mains to the property.

    Approx. $800

    Quote 2 approx. $1000
    Includes
    1. Remove old fuse board and meters
    2. Install new metal meter enclosure.
    3. Reconnect existing mains cable.
    4. Fit isolation link to meter panel and fit existing meters.
    5. Reconnect existing light and power circuits.
    6. Fit safety switch circuit breaker combinations to light and power circuits.
    7. Fit 40 amp main switch circuit breaker
    8. Reconnect existing main earth.
    9. Test and reconnect supply to board.
    10. Submit forms to Energex to reseal meters.

    The second includes a new meter box as well as board/RCD. Depends on the condition of the meter box if this is needed, or if too small to accomodate new work.

    It looks like this,

    The 1st quote is going to place the new breaker below the board

    I would go for option 2 if that was in my IP, its an eyesore. A meter box will make that much nicer.

    I would go for option 2.

    Get some more quotes for the same specs as option 2.

    Option 2. No brainer.

    btw you're limited to 40 amps load on the board, so I assume you've got 6mm sub mains in an old miners cottage or similair. In the future if you renovate go to 16mm sub mains and upgrade that board.

    Has the house inernal wiring been replaced? Is it VIR?

    Ok. I mean old wiring isn't a problem until it's a problem, then it's a serious problem, I've seen VIR catch fire, I've seen all manner of light fitting unearthed, I've seen split conduit not earthed. If you wanted to keep yourself out of the coroners court I'd probably upgrade it. Get the sparkies to have a look in your roof or under the house (unsure of QLD'ers) and see what you've gott, I'm not trying to push you into it, just some helpful advice.

    Hiya,
    Visiting old(ish) thread
    How much does Energex usually charge for this? Tenant got a generic email that state can range from up to $800 to $3000 :confused:
    Obviously I'll be the one paying but I hope it doesn't cost another $800 to reseal a meter!?
