I noticed that the IVV and VTS graphs are similar over the last few months which makes sense. But when I compared the last month of IVV (which tracks the SP500) to the last month of the S&P500 index there was more than a 1% difference. The IVV was up 0.35% whereas the SP500 was up 1.55%. And if we look at the last year, IVV is up 15% whereas the SP500 is up 17%.

Why is there such a big difference? I understand Index funds that track the SP500 will be lower because of management fees etc, but it shouldn't be a 2% difference?

If someone could enlighten me that would be awesome!

    Cheers, Sam

clear as mud isn't it ?? ( and why I recommend intense research into these investment vehicles )

    suggested reasons for variance

is one quoted in $US and another in $A ( for the Vanguard offerings )

does each hold identical mixes of shares ( or any actual shares at all , not say units in a parallel fund )

I hold Vanguard and Betashare offerings ( both none of those mentioned above )

    I haven't looked into it.

Both those products are in Aussie dollars and unhedged.
