I agree with you Scott. He said himself - he could shoot somebody in the middle of Fifth Avenue and walk away. Not a lot of the information is completely new. What's new is the amount of information gathered together in one place, the amount of detail on the information, and some of the evidence presented (some of it not so strong, some very strong).
What is interesting is that the Repubs on the committee didn't ask a single question about any details of crime/collusion/coverup, but rather spent the entire time trying to shred Cohen's reputation. His reputation is already shredded and he's already going to jail - for lying before Congress to "protect" DT - so has nothing to gain (and a lot more to lose) by divulging information. Bit like a repeat of the Ford/Kavanaugh hearing but with the Dem's doing a thorough investigation instead of a whitewash
So the Republicans are having a go at him because he has lied before. But when he was lying before, he was defending Trump. So now they are verifying that he was a liar when he was defending Trump?
Unfortunately, the Dems didn't have a cohesive line of questioning for him to build a strong case (according to SMH).
Yep - because as damning as it was, nothing much new was added and (asides from payment to the mistresses) he doesn't appear to have any physical evidence. Appears that we have become jaded, accustomed and complacent to scandals that would have rocked and toppled any other President ... and similar for our own political landscape in Australia
Hmmmm - okay - the Repubs are accusing Cohen of money laundering (as part of their smear campaign) .... House Republicans accuse Cohen of failing to register as foreign agent in fiery hearing But hang on ... wasn't he the Treasurer of the Republican National Committee so ... how do those dots connect?
It's all over Fox and Breitbart, funnily enough. So if you can't attack the facts, attack the person stating the facts. I didn't see very much of attacking what he actually said at all. In some ways, he could have gone a lot further. He kept away from subjects which were being examined in other enquiries.
“He is a racist. He is a conman. And he is a cheat,” Cohen testified, We knew that already, how long is it going to take for the republicans to wake up to this fraud. Boot this loose cannon fool out, 2020 is too far away, a lot of global damage can be done in a year.
More the case, is we are becoming conditioned to 'politicians lie - constantly & blatantly'. Trump has lowered the bar so low that we'll stub our toes on it. It wasn't so long ago we were aghast that some pollie claimed that asylum seekers had thrown a kid from a boat.
Apparently Cohen's testimony may have contributed to the failure of the NK talks. Even so, Trump is referring to Cohen as a convicted liar and fraudster - for his previous testimony supporting Trump.
It is reported that both parties to the talks knew what the other wanted. Neither would give ground and Un walked, but Trump is putting it out that he walked. I doubt very much Cohen's hearing would have had any bearing at all, but why let that get in the way of a good story from the WH.
He was convicted of lying by saying "Trump was innocent" ... can't have it both ways. If he'd said "Trump was guilty" then he wouldn't have been convicted of that particular charge (disregarding all the other charges) Did anyone listen to the two hour rambling speech during the CPAC conference?
