    Hi Everyone

It's a Friday and since we're coming up to the various footy seasons i thought i'd get a straw poll on who supports who in the PC community.
It'll be a bit of fun and we can have a gentle dig at each other

I think this can be a week by week thing so this week we'll start with the AFL.
In the following weeks we will ask who you support in League, Union, EPL, NFL, A League etc

    I'll start us off,

    Collingwood

One of my co-directors is an ex-Swan but I don't spend any time pretending that I know what's going on.

I've always wondered which code commands the most intense religious fervour- AFL in Vic or Rugby in NZ? I think I'd be a social outcast south of the Barassi Line and be forced to live as a hermit- I can name maybe 3-4 teams in the whole comp tops and that's where my knowledge ends.

Born in Victoria I support Melbourne in the AFL. Living in Canberra I support the Brumbies (beat the Melbourne Rebels 27 v 24 last night with a 60 meter penalty kick in extra time.)

Ive never understood the fandom, especially in the current day and age where it is the almighty $$$ that dictates who someone plays for. I don't think we are quite at the evolution of the USA with the rookies being allocated without having a say in where they go, but we are not far off. How can fans be so "loyal" to a team when the players arent? Amazing exercise in marketing and propaganda - the comparison to religion is apt.

If you're truly passionate about a sport I still get it though I've largely lost the passion I once had for my code (which is a shame because I remember how much joy I got out of it). TBH while it's not my cup of tea I'm not having a go at AFL, more just amazed at the level of interest it commands in VIC. Rugby in NZ and cricket in India are the only comparables I can think of.

I am going with mascots and it completely depends on the game. Especially i like felines e.g. cats, tigers and lions. Also dogs are close to my hard. Magpies are tough and viscous. Also once got attacked by the the angry swan and I have seen the damage that eagles can make. Saints are too much goodie goodies to win and really can not support the sad team (blues)

    I know what you mean.

I grew up a VFL supporter, and that's completely disappeared.

Lol, to call it by its most offensive name you really must have really fallen out with it. Was it rule changes or just dwindling passion?

It's only been AFL for 31 years. I grew up with VFL, for more years than that ;-)

Actually, they did well to broaden the base. When I first went to Sydney in the mid 70s, I had trouble even finding the weekend results. When the Swans came to Sydney, I had a season ticket - and made a handy bit of pocket money buying shares when they floated, and selling when they soared.
