Yeah, the aspirational one of the time was the VL Turbo.

I got mine locally imported from a muscle car place in Caringbah since then the guy decided to sell up due to the Aussie dollar falling.

I love Camaro's but I'm more into the 67-69 especially the RS SS models. Have to say I like the new hellcat camaro.

Thoughts on merc c32 and c55 amg's, future classics?

You can get the c32amg for about 15k with low km, and the v8 c55 for around 22-25k when they pop up with lower km.
I'm considering either the c55 or e500 for my next daily.

Only 2 door Mercedes have seen sizeable increase in the past.

I think big engine non turbos will be at a premium in the future.

    Whoa!!

"Theoretically, if you were someplace where you could operate at full throttle without letting up, Dodge says the Hemi would drain the fuel tank in under 11 minutes."

Is that like a jet on Afterburner?!

PS. Why'd you sell your old fastback?

I also read somewhere that the front wheels lift off the ground from factory

Had an unexpected third kid at the time ( 3 kids under 4yrs ). So as you could imagine I didn't have much time to drive it. So at the time it had to go, now that the kids are older its time for another one. Trouble is I keep comparing the ones I look at to my old one, and they just don't compare. Mine was a all matching numbers with original log books, power brakes, power steer, factory A/C and original California number plates from day 1 along with 82k original documented miles.

90% of cars in Australia are purchased with finance and there is a very close link with increasing house prices and increased spending on cars as many people use their mortgage as an ATM to cover this kind of spending.

Ah! Well, gotta do what you gotta do.

Had a friend who had 4 kids and reckoned he had to get something with a bench seat in the front so he could fit them all in!!

Funny you mentioned that. That's one of the main reasons why I sold the mustang in the first place. And that is what I'm doing with next one I find. I spoke to the mustang specialist at Carlton and he's done them before in a fastback. And that's without ruining the integrity of the car. Happy days

here is to hoping classica cars prices will reduce, but to be honest i doubt because cars can be easily shipped overseas, of cources aussie cars like falcons and commies will not have an wide oversea market,

but other cars like the OG mustang, nxs air cooled porsches. i doubt their price will move.

You mention the air cooled 911's - there is a bunch of Left Hand Drive older 911's over here, it must have been more profitable to import and sell them here than in the US? I've seen the same with e30 BMW M3's - they catch your eye because they're relatively cheap and then you look closer and see they're left hand drive, interesting.

im not sure tbh.. i guess it comes down to the quality of the cars too. im no expert so im not sure what the "investors" or collectors really look for. automatic has no value as well.

    but RHD is still expensive

    last i check e30 m3 are around 80-90k for a LHD manual ?

Yeah which is relatively cheap compared to a RHD model (talking about cars in Australia) I've seen some RHD e30 M3's sell for over $120K

W202 C36 and C55's have seen a big hike in the last two years. I know, because I wanted one and now I can't afford one.... Missed opportunities....

W203's were the ugly duckling for Mercedes, so it's the least likely model to see strong growth, even though the C32's in particular are a real Wolf in Sheep's clothing (assuming you've fiddled with the supercharger...!).

Ugly duckling? I think they look fantastic, had no idea.

How much have you seen the c55amg rise? Last one I seen sold for 23k with 109,000km and full service history through a dealership. Seems they take ages to sell too, but I've only been following them for 2 months now.

Not just cosmetically, more so that they were the first post-Chrysler merger C-Class. The perceived AND real quality took a big dive for the model, which was rectified with its replacement (kind of like how the Porsche 911 996 came after the 993 and before the 997). By the time cars like that get to this age though, they're usually pretty sorted- I'd love a C32 AMG.

I've seen W202 C55's pulling between $20,000-$40,000 in the last few years, but definitely more towards the high end lately.

I was more interested in the C36 though when I was keeping a close eye on it, and a good one used to go for no more than about $12,000 while I was a poor student, but I've seen them disappear in the mid-20's of late!? Buggers.

Admittedly both seem to take a while to sell, which I find surprisingly since everyone loves the C63's so much.

Still a bargain IMO, consider how much they cost new AND the fact that many big v8's are being replaced by smaller capacity turbo motors :D
