I’m not from Gold Coast, but I’ve recently observed that there’s been a lot of hype around the Chirn Park area, in terms of lifestyle/property potential etc. However, when I look up the area online, I am not able to find a lot of information about the area. Judging from its location, it’s located very close to a major hospital (also where a lot of the university students go to intern for medicine), the tram, other growth suburbs, is on the left side of the highway to Brisbane and pretty close to the water and some big parks. It also has a little shopping village.

Just want to know what GC locals think about the area? What’s so special about the area?

Personally I don't think it's that special, who's hyping it?
It's Labrador, the nicer part or labrador though. Still lots of cheaper older houses on larger blocks, lots of development happening, gentrification slowly happening.
Fair bit of crime in the area (break and enter type) and homeless, drugs in the area.
Labrador has the nickname lock-your-door/stab-rador etc. That sentiment is changing, hence lots of developments happening in the area.
Lifestyle wise it's close to the Broadwater parkland, schools close by.
    It's improving.

    It's fine.

Southport has gone through the roof!!

Isn't Chirn Park I the same general area?

Whole of GC should be hyped given the massive returns

Chirn Park is Southport and Labrador. Nicer part with the cafes. @Lindsay_W is pretty spot on with his overview of it.

As @boganfromlogan said everywhere in GC is booming so it’s not a particularly special area except for potential of the larger block sizes. If you can get the numbers to stack up it’s as good an area to start as any. I have looked for houses in this pocket but lots of fibro and asbestos in the houses I can’t be bothered to deal with. Probably high insurance as well.

I saw there is a street festival in Chirn Park this weekend and there have been some events in Southport CBD to turn the white elephant into a swan. It was actually buzzing a lot more than the last time I visited when I was very worried I would be stabbed or robbed.

May I ask who is hyping Chirn Park?

Many of the older houses in the area have aspestos in the roof material. A mate in Southport prays for a stormy to damage his roof so the insurance company needs to deal with it. Join some of the local Facebook groups and you will hear no end of crime. I happy to be just a bit north of that area.

Well if it is on Facebook it must be true

Crime stats have the beachside areas as the crimespots

There are some little punks doing the rounds in Miami most weekends at moment but I still think Southport would see some high crime rates

    PPOR? That would be unlucky.

Which days did the breakins occur?

Surfers and West End are the crime capitals. Anyway the poster wanted know what the area was like. Spent years driving kids to footy down that way, also own property down there.

I think it's fine. I particularly like the area close to uni, but hey, opinions vary.

Luckily the prices are going north .... everywhere

It’s well located and gentrifying quickly, while it still has its issues (lol it’s the gold coast) it’s better than it was 10-15 years ago. The gold coast in general has improved a lot over the last decade but only so much of it is close to the water.

I used to live in Eagle Heights 4271

    Then the postie changed.

Then it became Tamborine Mountain 4272.

    Insurance became cheaper.

We blamed the postie. But apparently it is hard to change suburb names.

Had that happen to me once...it was the sweetest gift.

Back to thread, Chirn Park is just a collection of shops, some would say, a 'village' but I think the appeal of Labrador and Southport is the price point - still cheap IMHO especially units.

Well, I have an IP that's closer to the Broadwater. Can we name that part of Labrador, 'Broadwater'? Instant 20% CG :)

    Yes.

Sometimes I find myself defending Logan and the crime stat's do kinda indicate beachside and West End.

West end was in the news for high crime!!

Why would it be unlucky and what does it matter about what day it happened?

    Sounded like BS to me.

If not BS it is very unlucky. Why does thief try 3 times same location in a week and that's all.

No worries though, I exaggerate and BS too. But if someone asks for deets I usually do mea culpa.

But u believe if u want. I certainly was gonna give benefit of doubt.

But more details and sounds more cred

Now u have pantsed me, so I have to confess I thought it sounded like BS. If u get original claim verified then I will feel VERY small, for doubting, picking at it, confessing to doubting, revealing ulterior motive AND being wrong.

    Oh dear
