Chinese tourists spend significantly more per person too. Cannot find the source now, however I believe it was around $2k for Kiwis versus $8k for each Chinese traveller.

Kiwis all staying with their cuzzie-bro's and not having to drop funds on accomodation possibly?

The interesting fact behind Chinese tourists is that a large motivation for travel is shopping of leisure activities, not really the actual travelling to another country thing. Taxes on luxury goods are massive in China so the higher/middle class travels to buy their Louis Vuitton or other stuff overseas. They do so for the whole family as well, which explains the high spending per head. Just look at the special events in those luxury shops on King St in Syd for Chinese bus tours, or the massive queue of mostly Chinese tourists at the SYD/MEL tax refund (really lots of zeros on their receipts ;-)). I once talked to a Chinese tourist on the GC who came for the shops and casino; beach was not on his holiday agenda ;-)
