Seems right to me, unless prices are a lot cheaper in QLD than Newcastle

Install new LED down lights $50-$70 per downlight
Install owner supplied ceiling fan $80-$200

So, the fans would be min $480 and the downlights min $2,000. Min $2,480

There is a lot of replacing old fitting s with downlights there. Usually light fighting are screw to a timber but for a downlight u need 90mm clearance so could run into problems there.

Are you using LED downlights or halogen?

Square or round (round are much easier).

    Are they dimmable?

Is he installing gpos for each light/do tgey come on a plug and lead or hard wired?

Is the sparky providing the additional wiring and circuits/breakers (if required)

With materials not included, it's on the hefty side, I would have thought somewhere $15-1600 is reasonable.

Compared to Melbourne that's not bad
Best price I could get is $75 per downlight (supply and install) and $100 per fan install (not inc supply)

I recently paid $200 per fan to install. It's not just the light/fan itself that gets installed, but they have to run the wires back to the controlling switch and often replace that as well. Can be a lot of work depending on the house setup.

Although I recently got a quote via my property manager, to replace some drummy tiles in a rental. Came back at $1,300. Asked for a breakdown as there is only around $100 worth of material. Lotsa silence

 how big is the area?
My quote for 2x3m is about $900 all in one day, asked them to just do affected area and it's $200.
Other quotes came a lot more expensive as they pull the old tiles, redo the substrate, back next day to tile, then grout

That's why I asked for a detailed cost breakdown. The blurb said remove drummy tiles, remove waste and re-tile/re-grout $1,300+gst. I know the tiled area that needs doing and it's about 1mx1m maximum.

Unless the contractor is going down to studs, that is way over

With the electrical quote, its a good number.

putting ceiling fans together and up takes time, you might be able to bring the cost down a bit if you assemble the fans before the electrician gets there.
