    Hi,

Just letting people know that the scammers are working overtime during the Christmas period and hoping that people are too preoccupied with the celebrations and spending. Just cancelled one card due to 4 unauthorised transactions made.

****! Just checked. Had two transactions yesterday on my cc. One in collinswood chemart (SA, I live in NSW), and another for "grndstaysuits bethlehem NH". Only $30 in transactions, but it shows I'm compromised, so I've cancelled the card.
Now to think of all my direct debits to my cc. I'll try to get the info from the bank tomorrow.

So a million thanks to you jins, I wouldn't have checked unless I saw this thread.

@jins13 Youre right the credit card faires are at work.
This morning we had one test for $3 or so then they hit our card for more. The bank caught the transaction as it was from a sports store in the US and canceled the card.

When our credit card was hacked it was immediately picked up by the provider.

We simply got a text, did you buy xxx from xxx? Reply 1 for yes or 2 for no.

    We replied 2.

I tried to phone them, but soon got the call waiting pips. Took the call and it was the credit card people contacting us. Card had already been blocked. Two transactions (iTunes cards) from overseas. Our records showed that we always notified them before using the cards outside Australia.

So far, my cards are ok.

But it's hard to tell sometimes where you are buying from. I have purchased online from an Australian based website (usually services) and had an overseas payment appear on my statement.

I had a lot of trouble this year paying for the land content of an Egyptian tour (to an Egyptian company) as the payment was rejected several times.

And similarly, buying online often throws up a different trading name on our credit card that has no similarity to the company name of the item I've ordered.

I do buy a fair bit online so sometimes I have to rack my brain as to what I bought. Googling the name on the company I'm paying often tells me it is "xyz" and then I remember what I ordered a week ago.

Buying in person can often give you this result, especially service stations. The legal name and the "trading as" name can be quite different. I can't immediately recognise about 5% of in person transactions by the name on the statement.

I have bought something online and later checked my statement and noticed what I thought was a sus transaction which I had cancelled. Then the retailer contacted me asking what was wrong - I had cancelled an innocent transaction so I just paid again (with a different card).

I don't do much in the way of buying online now but I still have a pre-paid credit card for when I do. Never had much on it but I found it useful on occasion.

Must be the season for it. My card was hacked on Christmas Eve. i received an email notification of a $5 transaction. I didn't recognize it and was in the process of checking it when i received a second email notification of a $30 spend in Melbourne (I am in NSW). I blocked the card online immediately and a few minutes later got another notification that a $68 transaction was rejected due to my card being blocked. :(

I got hit too yesterday. As soon as I sat down for Christmas lunch, I got a text about a suspicious transaction. Card got cancelled immediately.

    It’s the season

I got hit 3 transactions a few days ago.
I have my accounts set to get a txt message if there is a transaction on them.

All the transactions were for pizza in Tawoomba. I’ve never been to Tawoomba, and I’m currently in Kazakhstan.

About $80 hit. I called CBA and they cancelled the card.

Mine was 3 or 4 years ago - no notification from the bank. Cleaned something like $15k in Miami.

Mrs No Mates noticed something was up as she'd only cleared the card a couple of days prior (& most of the expenses were gifts - SNM doesn't do gifts).

Card was stopped but still took a while to get new cards issued due to Christmas.
