    Hey Folks.

I am closing up one side of my carport, just fliing in the space between the piers with some walls, and am wondering what would be the cheapest cladding to use? Colorbond? Blueboard? Weatherboards? Marine Ply? Single leaf brick? Being outside it obviously needs to be weather proof.

Existing house (and garage piers) are rendered brick.

I'll be doing all the work my self, am pretty handy with the tools.

    Cheers.

(Perth, WA if that makers a difference)

if your going to render it to match then use blueboard. if you just want a covering then use fibro sheets.

A painted finish on blueboard is probably a bit cheaper than rendered blueboard - depends on how cheap you want to go.

Blue board would be the way to go for cheap.

Has the structure been checked to confirm that the windload can be borne by the columns, post supports and footings?

Trellis may be an alternative to minimise the windload.

    G'day PerthEngineeringDraftyGuy,

You could check out the salvage yards for 2nd hand materials or ask the people on building sites if they have any left-over materials that they would otherwise throw out.

Or blueboard then DIY render. Another option is bricks from gumtree, DIY brick laying then DIY render

If I am understanding this correctly,at the moment you have two brick piers, one on each corner of your carport and are going to fill in the open space? If that is right than you would need to erect an internal frame to fix the various cladding materials that have been mentioned to (blueboard, fibro, etc) which would also be visible, and might not look too good either. So if I am understanding this right you would have to clad both sides of the framing to achieve a tidy result. You mentioned a single leaf brick wall and that might be the best option but that could also depend on whether the concrete has a sufficiently thickened edge to carry the load of the brick wall. You would also need to place attached piers on the inside of the single skin brick wall for support. The number would depend on the span.Again PEDG,I'm not sure if I am reading this right and I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill but there could be a little bit in it.Regards Terry.

G'day all. Cheers for you input.

I know it was asking a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question, but you've sett the cogs in my head turning.

Am fully aware of bracing/footing/pier/framing/etc requirements - it's literally my job.

Unfortunately we don't do any pricing or anything, so I'm clueless there.

I have leant more on where I will get a nice finish (remembering that I'm doing it myself) and decided colorbond will be the way to go, as I don't have to do anything once its installed (render/paint/whatever - which just adds to price) and the back side of a colorbond sheet doesn't look so bad.

I've ordered my supplied so once they're delivered and installed I'll post a pic or two.

Yeah, but what about, framing, finishing etc? it looks at though it will add up pretty quickly.
Yeah, I've nagged all the engineers at work about it for weeks. haha
Looking for a (somewhat) weather sealed solution.

Important questions - trimdeck or custom orb? Horizontal or vertical?

    Three total, one mid span.

Visible framing inside wouldn't be a drama. It'a a garage after all. I'd probably use noggins as shelves.
Because there is three piers, the span is about 2250 each opening, no additional piers would be required, but i'd have to tie into the piers properly with drilled in dowels. Slab thickening is worth considering, although shouldn't be too bad as no roof load would be transferred, but i'd have to check it out.

Trimdek, vertical. More important question I expected from you is which colour.

I've even planned for a polycarb sunlight section at the top.
