I think about changing into an IT contract job and look for one of the best options when signing an contract job. The contract can be interstate and I have to flight there and back every week/fortnight. So, traveling cost is significant.

    1. Sign a PAYG employment contract with an agent/salary packaging company.

    2. Sign a service providing contract, use one of the following names:

    (a) ABC Pty Ltd
    (b) ABC Pty Ltd ATF Property Investment Family Trust (an existing property investment trust )
    (c) ABC Pty Ltd ATF New Family Trust (open a new family trust)

    Expenses to be claimed:
    1. Travel expenses (car, public transport, air tickets, meals, accommodation)
    2. Computer and internet
    3. Telecommunication, mobile etc.

Can you advise me the cons and pros of each?

    • Travel is a private expense not deductible as the place of work is interstate
    • Possibly sham contract as you will be required to work solely for this client and employer is dodging workers comp, entitlements & super
