very old thread but thought to write here as it specific for commsec pocket... one of the paragraph in the article you copied says it cost more with commsec pocket compared to buying one off however it is irrelevant example as CommsecPocket (CP) is about regular investment to pick-up dollar cost average and also get people into regular habit of saving in my opinion... !

not everyone can save up $5k per month as most people saving $1k per month is a good decent saving and ability to put that into etf at $2 is good deal in my opinion. I have stake account and i use that for bigger order however CP helps with regular investment.

i have no idea how good or bad it will at the tax time as i am thinking to start it now, but that is the only down side to regular investment (applicable to any platform you use) unlike bulk order where you have 1 buy & 1 sell date when you want to calculate capital gain tax. hope CP provides good trade record file to use in future.

The main downside with CommSec Pocket is the limited investment options.

Stake with $3 trades you can invest in anything you like or for smaller amounts CMC with free brokerage for investments up to $1000 per day.

Agree, they only got 7 etf to choose from but for my personal requirement they have what i wanted so it is ok. the only one they are missing and what i thought they should is S&P500 so like IVV. due to split recently IVV is now well under $40 per unit so i am hoping they might add that in future but if they can't still i am ok with what they have.

What happens when you sell? Are the fees high? Can you sell using another platform with cheaper fees?

They should have added s&P 500 ETF instead of these products.
