    Hi,

I am considering replacing carpet in the lounge room & 3 bedrooms of my IP.

Just doing research at the moment, haven't got any quotes as yet, just wanting to get feedback from any PI's who have replaced their carpet ...

Is it better to go with the cheaper option of Polypropylene or spend a bit more on Synthetic Nylon ?

    Thanks in advance

And me. That cheap stuff they put into houses to flip is a disaster within about two years.

Polypropylene crushes worse than Nylon, which is much more robust. If the Nylon is Solution Dyed (most are these days) then it's equally stainproof as Polypropylene.

Just to complicate things, there's also various grades between them. You can get really dense Poly's which wear well, particularly if they're a flatter loop. You can get poor quality SDN's which wear poorly, especially the thicker twist pile ones that aren't very dense.

Carpet salespeople are generally hopeless at advising you on carpet quality/density because they tend to just want to push you to whatever they want and won't give you an objective comparison. All the companies have different products and densities are rarely (if ever) advertised.

If you're looking for a luxury feel then you'll want to pay more for a thicker SDN that's soft underfoot and has the density to support a long life.

If you want it to look nice, but don't think the demographic will really notice the 'softness' (which covers most rentals) then I'd suggest a decent but flatter cut pile SDN- that'll wear well because it wont have as much pile to flatten.

And if you want pure utility, get a cheap super low loop pile Poly. Make it flat enough and wear characteristics don't really matter, but it won't be very nice.

P.S Keep to dark and/or earthy colours.
