One begs the question: not so much can I get the NBN but do I need it?

For a number of years I was on ADSL, not even ADSL2. I was paying more for a slow download and limited capacity than I would have under an ADSL2 unlimited plan. An iOs upgrade might take 10 hours to download, movies were out of the question.

I only recently found out that ADSL2 was actually available in my area, it was only Optus who chose not to connect it to the exchange. Netflix is now finally usable.

NBN may well speed things up even more, although it's not too bad. However, I think that a universally available high speed internet access would increase the possibilities available.

I have ADSL2. The speed at which I browse the web is mostly limited by the site I visit rather than my connection. But I'm a sole user household. Apple and news sites are the slowest.

If I was a family with two kids there would probably be 5+ devices sharing the connection. That would slow things down dramatically. If I had cable net it probably wouldn't be a problem, ATM.

We need to build the net for the future, not for yesterday.
