typical herald headline bit of reading reveals "There is nothing wrong with Hunter as a name per se as an electorate. The boundaries of the current federal seat of Hunter are being redistributed, but there will remain an electorate called Hunter"

Have seen some great chat about all the properties in student areas, and wouldnt mind throwing my two bobs.
Obviously there has been a fall in demand for student accom with the addition of the new colleges, however based on my observatioms at the uni, a huge population (not all!) of those residents are overseas students, leaving many locals going to the party colleges, or nearby room leases.
Currently stats show that shortland/jesmond has an unrealistic vacancy rate, because those stats come from agents/accessible data.
I know quite a few owners who just get a lease written up, and manage the rental privately with some features that students are really attracted to.
I have a 6 bedder and i have had much interest in smallish rooms for 160-170$ even in the past couple months (strange yes) i found that adding split system air con, 4, 6, or 12 month per room lease options and proximity (300m) to the uni were a big hit. Also, these students were more attracted to my house because they were talking to a youngish person who is not an agent.
Just a bit of feedback for those who may be struggling with the drop in demand in the area. If you want to buy and forget, look elsewhere.
Also, i have found that house prices in shortland a dramatically lower than birmi gardens, jesmond waratah etc. I feel that these prices will surely spread to shortland in the next upturn in sales. Backing this i believe is the large number of apartment complexes being thrown up in shortland.. they are everywhere.

Are the views really that great? It's the arse end of the harbour. Panoramic views of the tug base, grain silos, coal loaders and car parks.

With the rail gone and that big patch of vacant in front of it there, that view may turn into looking into your neighbours window before too long.

Another $50 million of spending to be announced in the Hunter today, looks like the cruise terminal on Dyke Point will be the front runner for a major upgrade... Hopefully the extra ferry thats always parked around at Carrington will get a run when the cruise ships come in to bring the passengers into the city...

I don't think they like points?

If they want to call a place strap on they should just do it.

Anyone know why lake mac and ncc arent merging? Would they be too big together?
Port stephens and ncc are smooth operators by themselves, whereas lake mac seem to need some help.. and charlestown is 5 minutes from newcastle city centre!
