my daughter has been nagging me for a PC sot hat she can play Sims and Fornote on a PC- apparently you can do more on Sims and some of the Sims games don’t run on IPads etc.
She has been saving her money and now wants to buy a cheap gaming PC- or a PC that those games will run on- not sure if that requires a gaming pc as such.
We tried downloading the game on my MacBook Air but I didn’t have enough storage left to allow it.

Can anyone advise if something like this will run it?
    AMD A6 7400K 3.9GHz 120GB SSD 4GB Radeon R5 Dual Core Gaming Computer Desktop PC | eBay

And if she buys that will she also need to buy windows 10 or can it run without it?

Sorry if I sound completely stupid however I know absolutely nothing about computers and I don’t want her asking in a shop for info and being upsold something that she doesn’t need for what she wants to use if for.

It will need an operating system like windows 10. It doesn't come with anything.

It doesn't come with a screen/keyboard/mouse etc either.

I don't use a PC for anything much these days and not familiar with those games. 4gb of RAM sounds like it will need an upgrade and 120g HDD isn't going to be enough.

Really? She literally only wants it to play Sims and Fortnite- do they not make base models that would do this and not much else? They already have iPads for school and I have a Macbook for everything else so we don't need it for anything else at all

Well thats the other option I was considering, for some reason she thinks the PC version of Sims is better. Not sure what the difference is myself.

PC version of SIMs has expansion packs and some other bells and whistles. For $500 you will buy a coffee maker not a gaming PC. Don’t waste your money. You need at least $1,200 to get something semi decent.

Hi @Otie, as Hodor has pointed out, the system you linked would not be up to the task, in addition to other hidden costs such as an Operating System (plus potential installation costs).
If going down the PC route then your best bet would be to purchase something like this: PCCG Focus 1050 Gaming System [PCCG-FOCUS10503] : PC Case Gear
As your daughter wants to play Fortnite - looking at its requirements, you really need something with ~ 8GB RAM & 2GB VRAM (Graphics Card) in order to play the game smoothly.
Otherwise as previously noted, a PS4 could be the more economical option.

That completely depends on what games you are running. I do all my gaming on a 10 year old laptop, which runs all the games I play perfectly.

The Sims 4 requires a NVIDIA GTX 650 or better, so won't run great on a Radeon R5.

You should be able to buy a PC to play Sims and Fornite for around $500 but it's not going to run Assassin's Creed Odyssey

gig And people thought that property investing was confusing and hard lol...I am unsure what graphic card that fornite would need? If the system you buy can run fornite, I am pretty sure it can do Sims. So work on buying spec to be able to play fornite.

To help confuse you more... Office Use System Packages - MSY

Quick search on the web - Min - Max specs for fortnite Fortnite Requirements Test

BTW what is your internet connection-download gig limit and speed like ?

I bet you wished you never asked about fornite lol

PS4 if she just wants to play the games....

However she might get across the line if she researches all the components and learns how to build it herself. It's a great skill to have.

Lol this is so overwhelming! I think I’m going to try and really talk her into the PS4!
It was the expansion packs she was after-that’s why she wanted a PC. I don’t think she would be up to the task of building one as she seems to take after me in the IT department unfortunately.

You'll struggle to buy a new PC for that price. For $500 you could build a 2nd hand one pretty easily around an i3 or i5 system but you'd really need to have somebody who knows what to look for.

For example, this would probably do: Intel i5 Quad Core Gaming PC 8GB Ram 500GB 2GB NVIDIA Graphics GT 1030 Win 10 | eBay

Something that is cheap and made for gaming is either a PS4 or Xbox One. I think you can buy the expansions for the Sims 4 on consoles now too. That's the easier option.

    Otie,

You are on a property forum and you say that building a PC is hard. I bet if you spent this week trying to understand the PC world. It will be a great learning experience together.

Don't throw your hands up in the air at the first small hump in the road you need to jump over.
I am sure someone will have a great saying for this situation?
