Often you can get a compatible no name battery. If it's a spare only, it shouldn't matter. I've never had issues.

Should have actually told @Sackie to negotiate a second battery into the deal when he bought the camera (or at least at a reduced price). Oversight on my behalf...

I get my aftermarket batteries from better bat and whilst not as good as the genuine ones are pretty good for the price. They get cycled several times weekly and often are sitting in a hot car so they're not treated all that well.

Memory cards I used to only get SanDisk but I had 6 cards fail on me in a short period of time so now refuse to ever buy SanDisk again. I've found Toshiba cards to be a good workhorse but they don't seem to be readily available anymore? Currently trialling Samsung and another brand which escapes me at the moment. These cards are also worked hard - loaded up and formatted (in camera) several times a week and haven't had one fail me but I do rotate them out after a couple of years of use as it's my biggest fear to have a card fail either on a job or before being able to download the photos.

I've even dropped my whole setup in a Saltwater pool before and still able to read the card  :D

Don't buy memory cards from eBay - only a trusted retailer. Dodgy retailers have a way of overclocking cards so they look as if they have twice as much memory as they actually do, and you only find out when you start to lose photos. I've been caught.

32GB may start to run out if you use RAW and take a lot of pictures. If you're able to unload picture at home, that's not a problem - but may be on an overseas trip.

p.s. Choose your LENSES BEFORE buying the bag - otherwise it may not all fit!

I just recently went through the agony of buying a bag as I had kept everything in hard cases previously. Thankfully my local camera store were awesome where I was able to purchase the bag, take it home, try it and swap it for another, progressively getting more expensive each time... $550 (and swallowing my inner tight arse) later finally found the right bag. Only thing is it's too heavy to take hiking!

Edit to add: photography does a good job at keeping your bank balance in check! Fortunately I'm just about done with my big purchases, just want to get a drone and that will be about it.

I wish! It ended up being the 4th bag I tried with all the others being nqr as I had specific requirements I wanted to adhere to and that was the only one that came close.

I probably could have gotten it cheaper online but didn't want to do my local store a disservice after they were so helpful.

It's a lot to take in. Although your camera will have an automatic mode, it really helps you to get those fundamentals. For instance, f4 and f1.8 lenses have been mentioned. What does that mean to you as the photographer? How can you get a picture which has a blurrier background than what you're getting?

Once you get the hang of it, it will be all second nature.

Does auto do the same thing or is manual adjusting really necessary?

Auto does the same thing. If you're shooting scenery, it will give you good results almost all the time. Manual control comes in for various situations - say a strongly backlit portrait (which is probably the most common situation I'll use it), high speed photography, or things that require something a little extra.

For now, you can take it out of the box and shoot photos - the more, the better. Try all sorts of situations. And gradually learn some of that other stuff, even just to know when you can take control.

You'll probably learn more from the course in terms of composition, and knowing how to take good pictures - the aesthetic part rather than the technical part.
