    Lols.

Get your head around your art first then purchasing toys will be more intuitive.

Farmers use crop sensors in order to work out the best time to plant a crop.

Thanks. Well, not really into these high tech gadgets.

Normally plant them in August. But if you want a really hardy plant let it grow through winter. If it survives it'll turn into one mutha of a plant.

Sure. But my suggestion is, as @Kinnon says, to get to know what can be done and how the results look, before spending loads of money. This is just getting to know his art first.

Maybe we'll get him to the stage where he eventually buys a photographer... :D

Decreasing the ISO to 100 would also balance with a 1/1250 shutter @ f1.8 ie no difference in exposure.

Good use of depth of field :)

    It's looking good.

Personally, I would have shifted the view so that the out of focus foreground doesn't block any part of the pot. Perhaps it's just me, but I found that just didn't gel.

I looked at that as 'strategic framing' ;)

Sure. Strategic framing is good. I love the colour and depth of field. But I just find it disconcerting when I expect an object to be there and there's something there where that object should finish. I like the use of the foreground, I just would have preferred it not to obscure a part of the main subject.

I actually did that on purpose because I felt it added some of my own 'creative touch' and maybe increased some extra framing and depth...

A green foreground blur is ok for me - I like it. If it was a hand or back of someone's head then....

I apologise if I sound critical.

I like the use of the foreground, don't get me wrong. It's just my personal reaction that it's not quite in the right position, that's all- @Scott No Mates doesn't have the same reaction. We all have different tastes, and we often like different things.

I think you've come a long way in a very short time. Well done.

Sounds like you're drinking the same stuff as myself tonight. Seriously though, I do like the vignetting that the greenery in the foreground creates.

@geoffw No apologies needed. I like all the feedback, critical or not. It gets me thinking about different perspectives and looking at things differently. It will all help me to improve. Thanks for the encouragement! :)
