We are being told vaccinating everyone (or vast majority like 80%) is the only way out .. however we have only vaccinated 5% of people so far and the reality remains that we just don’t have enough Pfizer doses (regardless of whatever spin Scomo tries to put on this).

What’s your opinion on how soon we will have 80% adult of population vaccinated?

    Edit: 5% currently vaccinated

My understanding is that it's closer to 5% of Australian fully vaccinated. This refers to the proportion of the entire population - some higher number being quoted are a percentage of the eligible.population. It's not a number to be proud of.

No country will get to 80% unless they vaccinate kids.
65-70% is more realistic and seems to be where highest vaccinating countries are flatlining.
EU will get to maximum 65% in 2 months with 85% adults vaccinated.

To get any higher than that got to start vaccinating kids and most countries not planning to do that anytime soon.

I don't think we will get to that level unless we have a major Covid event. The anti vaxers, social media and main stream media have run a successful anti sentiment campaign.

I think when they say 80% of population, they mean 80% of adult population.

    According to the Fairfax sites:
3.38% of the population have been fully vaccinated (867,521)
    25.82% have had a first dose (6,633,179)

Look it's not a race, and there's no rush to get vaccinated so my guess to get 80% vaccinated could take until 2026-2028 the way our govt is handling things

Yes it’s a race if we care about not running international Education ($32.2b) and international tourism ($57.2b) sectors completely into ground.

I think it’s an existential issue.. if we took this long to vaccinate and open up, we will struggle to find our place in a post covid world! My biggest fear is that our governments are actually quite capable of messing this up!

Whereas Johns Hopkins shows 1.22M fully vaccinated, with 7.3M having received their first dose - matching the Our World in Data numbers.

Standard global vaccination statistics published refer to total population, not just adults.
A few countries were reporting just adult % (including USA I think) but these were normalised for comparison with most countries that report total population.

Going to get confusing if some people talking total population and others adults only.

    NEVER

    1. Stupid people won't get vaccinated (unless it is made mandatory)
    2. There are a lot of stupid people!

The media doesn't help the situation with all its contradictory messaging and reporting.

Well if stupid people don’t get vaccinated, then it’s natures way. Survival of the fittest.

But the stupid people will allow the virus to keep changing, and that puts non-stupid people at risk too.

So within a few months we'll have reached 30% (nearly 50% of adults) as people get their second dose ... which is not bad considering we started 4 months later than most other countries

    I agree with the "never".

Firstly, the vaccine isn't even approved for minors. So even if every eligible adult was vaccinated, the 20% 14 or under wouldn't be vaccinated.

Secondly, there's a high scepticism amongst adults, with almost one third of adults unlikely to get vaccinated, according to a survey in May.
COVID vaccine hesitancy in Australia hits alarming levels: survey

At that rate, we'd be unlikely to get above 50% of the total population.

I suspect this current situation may tip many "undecideds" and those who are "waiting as long as possible" to get themselves vaccinated sooner.

There should be a rush imho.
Lockdowns (although necessary for an unvaccinated population) do not do anyone any good.
