    Hi all,

I'm considering to buy a house to live in Sydney which was previously used as an Defense Housing Investment. The lease was over and its not leased by DHA anymore (currently vacant). Is there anything that I should consider compared to buying a regular property in this case?

    Thanks
    Dan

There is a whole bunch of criteria a house needs to meet before it can become a DHA property, this means it should be above average.
As per @Rolf Latham they are refurbished at the end of lease, so shouldn't be anything requiring repair

Does the proximity to a defence base pose a significant risk to anything more than any other property in the area?

    Hi all,

Thanks all for your replies. The location is within normal residential area.

A friend in the navy had his defence unit in a normal unit block in a waterfront location in lane cove ... no navy base visible

I used to do garden maintenance at a magnificent home in Blakehurst that was occupied/rented by defence force personal.
He was some sort of disease specialist, flying all over.
They were based there for the school catchment.

It is amazing the perks in any industry/company when you get high up on the food chain !

I managed a unit years ago in Wollstonecraft - tenants were bomb disposal divers. They needed to be within 10 minutes of the Navy base.

Spent most of their time overseas too.
