    I just had a thought.

The Australian Bushfires made worldwide news. The bushfires meant a lot of OS travellers were deterred from coming to Australia, they were deterred from making a trip to anywhere in OZ, even if the place was well away from any actual bushfires.

Because OS travellers weren't coming, there were less virus spreaders coming here in January and February, as the vast majority of virus spreaders came in from overseas. The bushfires probably dampened down visitor numbers in December too. Gotta say, we had so many days of bad smoke in Sydney, it was not really a good time to leisure travel/have a holiday here, the news was fair on this. Smoke and visibility in the city was terrible on some days.

So... to a certain extent, thank the bushfires that the Covid crisis in Australia isn't worse than it already is!
