Hi there, Looking at options to build a new home for my parents for them to comfortably live out the remaining years of their lives. As they are only working part time, so they won't have any capability to service any new loans. We are looking at using cash to build, so would be looking at building something within budget. Budget 200-250k, not sure what we can build with this, but hence we are only looking for single storey at this stage, but would love to go double if budget allows. We came across this package from Metricon. Delta 23 With Aspire Façade - More Home For Less With Metricon Has anyone had any experience with these sort of packages, and what would be a rough estimate of site costs? Would it be better to go to custom builders? Recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks
Agreed, single storey is the way to go. Unless you're looking at a g/f under the same roof & you could have a two storey portion for your own family or a bedroom/ensuite/WIR & living areas on the ground floor.
Where are you located? I would budget another 30%-50% on top of that price at least. Particularly if you are in Sydney. Im not sure why but in Brisbane construction is noticeably cheaper.
At the very least get wider doorways, no step into the bathroom or shower etc. How old are your parents? Whose money is being used? And most importantly, what do they want?
Parents are at their early 60s. Will be a joint funding between the siblings using cash. Parents have lived in a sub average home for majority of their lives, migrated at an age where they weren't able to get education and just to worked low paying jobs to keep afloat. They've always wanted to get into one of these brand spankers, unfortunately, things have not worked out for them during their early years. Building a new home for them will be something we feel as a pay back for raising us and prioritising our education and well being, over reaching their dreams. We obviously have to move on with our lives as well, and therefore we are limited to such budgets.
It is very nice way to take care of your parents. Expect for a lot more additional costs though in for example 1. Site cost 2. Driveway 3. Electricity/flooring All the best
If you are going with a build of that kind of construction company, I would recommend getting hiring an independent building inspector. I did that for my PPOR. He helped us at various stages of the process, starting at the contract stage all the way to final handover.
Burbank are a cheaper builder with a quality spec similar.Disclaimer....i work for Burbank, and yes, i am currently building 2 homes with them.
Metricon as a builder gets mixed feedback RE to build quality. While they are a good builder - larger builders, due to the sheer volume to get a few more unhappy clients. Burbank are one of the cheapest builders & do a good build too (obviously nothings for nothing and with price reductions you do sacrifice a few things RE inclusions) But the clients I deal with who build with Burbank seem to love them.
