    Hi All

Does anyone have any knowledge on what choice do we have in selecting the Energy provider during construction of your house.
Our builder suggested that we don't have a choice and we have to go with their preferred supplier during construction and sign a form that builder can apply on our behalf.
And we can change it when we move in.

Anyone with similar experiences? Property is in Melb.

    Cheers

I deal with this at work a fair bit (electricity only) and it seems to be standard practice and you then change it once it's handed over. As long as they don't lock you into a contract, I don't see any issues. Makes it easier for them because they only have to deal with their preferred provider and it's easier for you as you don't need to get involved.

Any reason you're hesitant about this?

OK....was hesitant because not sure what plan they'll choose and the other concern is if their provider is expensive than what's available out there...Thanks

Maybe better that you do the connection with the builders preferred supplier. If not your choice, make sure when you sign up that it can be cancelled at any time without penalty.

Does the builder pay for electricity etc until handover?

Have the builder pay for the services during construction (reimburse upon presentation of invoice), then they can terminate upon handover and you can choose your preferred supplier.

No, it's to be paid by the owner. I'm happy to pay but just wanted to check if it is norm or something never heard of...
