    Dear All ,

I am planning to build my garage in Melbourne to 2 rooms and 1 bathroom due to extra family members . Any advice what should I do ? Do I need to apply for building permit ? planning permit?
I want to do it myself to save money as well? But is it worth it?
And Do I need to have a draftsman or someone to plan for me? Where to find these people?
Sorry for asking too much , as this is my first time get into building .
    Thank you

    Yes, you need a permit.

I suggest asking Council first. Converting a garage can be more complicated than you'd think.

If it is your first reno/build I would look at having someone guide you. As you can become to attached to it and a budget can be completely blown out. Or speak to builder and ask for quotes , ask different builders and get different quotes.

Do you research ensure they are insured, qualified and licensed.
