When I take out life insurance it is not my hope to ever make a claim Same with car insurance. But I still take out a policy and pay the premiums. Similarly with health insurance I buy a policy but not with the intention of hoping to make a claim.

I agree with all of those items except health insurance. We have a fantastic medical system here where we can access low or no cost healthcare should we ever need it. Health insurance doesn’t work like other insurance where you pay an excess and they cover you for your loss, often your financially worse off and have to pay more/a fee where if you don’t have insurance there is no fee or no gap.

We never had health insurance until it became better from a tax perspective. I still got the lowest cover I could in anticipation of never claiming on it. I've had excellent experiences with the public health system.

Thats really incorrect. Medicare is not a full insurance scheme. I will use my family example.

Wife had a cancer issue. Kidney. Under Medicare its free. They will remove the kidney. No cost. However they cut from waist to chest. You then have one kidney. Dialysis? Or the specialist she saw said a partial nephrectomy was possible but needed robotic and other metods. Cost 18k. Almost nothing from Medicare. Waittime 18mths but no assurance. Operate now and its 100% No kidney lost. Surgeon also works in public hodpital so we ask if we can join wait list. Sure. Your kidney will need removal and also mean you will die from cancer before the op.

I had a nose polyp issue years ago.medicare wait was 10 to 18 months. I was in acute pain. However pain is not a reason to advance you on the wait list. I chose to be a private patient in public hospital and operation was next day. Medicare wait was 3 months plus

I shareyour views but its not all the facts

Indeed. Medicare only covers some blood tests for example. There are others that a Dr might order that are useful but I pay for it because Medicare decided they would not as it's not a "standard" item. Good luck if your health is not normal or standard.

So true, we have waited for almost 12 months to see a pediatric specalist through the public system and still no sign when. Bought private health a week ago and will see a private specialist this week. There are so many thing medicare provide no or very little cover. And wait time is crazy.

That’s good to know- to be honest I didn’t know that it worked like that. The only experience I had was with small things which were not life/death situations such as tonsils etc. perhaps I should reconsider insurance!

I have sought advice from people who have successfully completed projects similar to what I wanted to do. I didn't ask their qualifications and still don't know what they are. I want to know what they have done, not what they have studied. Big difference in theory vs practice for me.

Agree mate. From a common sense side, it's insane to seriously take a lot of advice from anyone who hasn't achieved anything (wealth wise) besides a piece of paper.

Tonsils can be life threatening if they are too inflamed as they can obstruct the air way or at least make it difficult to breathe. That's rare but a time surgery is indicated.

Tell that to the rocket scientists who got the Apollo missions back to earth or the Galileo probe to Mars on a massive computer with 4K ram.

For Apollo 11, the theory was that the guidance computer would safely land the lunar module. In practice, the auto pilot almost crashed the lunar module which would have killed the whole crew. Freakin terrifying!

Like I said there is a big difference between theory and practice.

I get a lot of people asking "hundredaires" at the pub as to how to generate enough recurring income on how to retire early.

Can one learn a second language by talking with someone that doesnt speak that language ........................ ?

    hehe

    Another one of my faves.

Society teaches us to be aware, not be gullible, and in my day my parents taught me " not to talk to strangers".

What do we do now :)

Many of us are suffering from information overload, with the x "quotes" that its deemed to be right to get depending on your cultural and/or professional upbringing.

We sometimes find people coming to us after having seen 2, 3, or even 31 :) yes 31 ! other credit advisers, and we ask.........

what is your measureable criteria to make a good decision as to whom to work with, what does a good outcome look like 10 years down the track?

Most broker/banker hoppers, dont know the answer, and will eventually be "got" by the best sales person, or lured away from best business practice by some rate, lender rebate, or other "NOW" thing, rather than mapping the future forward.
