For some reason, I like bright coloured front doors. I'm considering a lime/yellow colour similar to this picture for my latest terrace. Door jambs, windows etc are otherwise dark grey and facade is original facebrick.

Property is going to be a long term rental, should I just stick with boring dark grey or go with my quirky side? Do other ppl like crazy front door colours?

Nice door, I dont mind that.
I guess it depends on the area. Here in Brisbane, some suburbs are more funky or trendy than the others. More vibrant, lively, colorful and all that. Everyone is houseproud and do like to be a bit more creative. If this is done well, blend in with the house itself and the neighbour, has good taste, why not?

Paint to match brickwork including mortar joints. That's just plain evil ;)

It’s just a door. I say paint it whatever colour you like.

I absolutely love it @Meristone & think it looks awesome !
We have a bright red front door on a white house/grey colorbond roof.
I say go for it. 20180111_222211.jpg

    I'm with you :)
I just finished 6 teeny tiny terraces and they all have a different front door - red, teal, yellow, lime green, purple and a boring black one.

I must be the odd one out. I'm not really a fan of the brightly colored feature doors.

Love bright entry doors, especially against high contrast exterior walls.
For me personally, I have a thing for dark exterior rendered walls (eg, Monument colour) with trim that is 1 or 2 shades lighter, against a bright red door that pops :)

Stunning little homes you've got there :)

Ok I think I will go for it. Lets hope Council's heritage conservation policy doesn't have an issue with it as its not really a heritage colour :D

Do it! At least it will be easy for the tenants to give directions to their friends.

I'll post pics afterwards. I think it may become "theat house with the yellow door".

Depends on street. A bit like green hair...Works for uni students etc. Barrister may get some strange looks in court. In Newtown is a absolute must for a quirky door / fence etc but in a row of classic homes it may or may not work. In a street of townhouses in 35 shades of beige it may just look wrong. In a row with loads of colour its just one more.

The streetscape issue is a funny one. You want to stand out but not be the one they all mock. Colour can be funny.

I just had a hard one with a small WC and vanity. So small all you can get is white melanine...Gross. In a sea of beige walls, foil tiles etc. Went with a walnut timber on cabinets / drawers (Thanks Ikea) and then used a stone tile splashback. Loads of small mosaics in 20+ shades of brown - beige. (Thanks Amber)

That green door may look really wrong if pic didnt include the green XMas wreath. Maybe try a small ascent of similar colour too...Eg planter box, pot etc. Even plants with a varigated green leaf (eg green)...Accessorise.

Its only paint. Cheap to redo.

    Melissa new house ??

Be brave and individual. One door can always be painted over and it shouldn't make one iota of difference to a tenant. Think of the bright side- when they're a little under the weather stumbling home or can't find their home in a row of similar dwellings the neon door will guide them :D:D:D

It won't help you navigate the key into the keyhole though.

I have to admit to a few paint scratches around the lock in our front door.

That bright yellow was invented by a chemist about 200 years ago!
    Quinacridone Yellow.
My years of Art training does contribute! Finally!

... Its not new, and so it is a heritage colour!
    all the best!

Drove past today and spotted a girl with bright pink/orange hair. I think that is a green light for yellow door @Meristone !

My grandparents were fortunate enough to purchase their own council house (in the UK). Translation for Australians: they rented a housing commission type home after the war and in the 1980s thanks to Mrs Thatcher they were able to buy it.

Anyhoo once you own your home, the council stops doing the maintenance. So the way you could let the neighbourhood know you had gone up in the world and were no longer a tenant was to paint your front door. (Because the council chose a colour each year and everyone got the same.)

So the day they bought the place my grandmother got grandfather to paint her front door green. Next week the council painted every front door green! So my poor grandfather had to repaint it blue.

Apparently there are streets in London where everyone has to paint the front door black.

I do love a red door - a friend loves purple - but because our new door is such beautiful timber, I painted the surrounds instead

note to self: get new photo of completed product
