I had them when I was younger. Part I didn't like is how many teeth they removed, total of 8 (including wisdom teeth). They wouldn't have taken the additional 4 these days from what I've read.

I agree- I don't mind crooked teeth at all, as long as they're not too bad. I'm not making my kids get them (I'd rather spend that kind of $$ in much more fun ways!) but I have one tooth that's quite uncomfortable and can't imagine keeping it that way for the next 50 years.

I had one front crooked tooth, felt self conscious about it.
Cost me $4500 top braces only, best thing I did, its a personal thing I guess

My partner, well we paid over $10,000, top/bottom braces, also corrected his over bite. His teeth were pretty bad. Has a great smile now

All up I'm paying a little over $6k for mine.

Expensive yes, but I know the confidence boost I will get from this. :D

    Yes - very personal.

I have a lower front tooth set back behind the two beside it, caused by wisdom teeth trying to push through 30 years ago. It's literally just a tooth depth back, so not wildly out of place. Sometimes it aches slightly and it does tend to discolour (to much red wine) - but I have such awesome and big top smiley teeth that it doesn't worry me at all.

Hubby has really crooked teeth but they are all lined up and give him no grief, dentist says they're healthy and it makes his smile rather cute. Rather like bowling pins teetering over

Maybe there's a business opportunity for a dental broker?

I think it depends on what you're having done. I'm only getting invisalign for my top teeth. Bottom teeth don't require any work.

I'm assuming you've been quoted for both upper and lower teeth?

Yes both. That seems more reasonable then.

Haha - they're always telling us to diversify our businesses, so maybe this is the way to go! :)

Mind you, you probably wouldn't be happy. Dentists are always looking down in the mouth.

But you might also check out smile.com.au - my daughter did this when she got her braces, and got a good discount by using one of their member dentists.

And that right there is why I'll never be diversifying into dentistry! Eeew!

    HI Jess

I had the full set when I was a teen, then in my 40s my teeth started to move back to their old position again.. After a few years I had my top set redone, particularly to close the huge gap that had developed in the centre.
Total price from an orthodontist in an affordable suburb nearby was about $1800, and most of it was refunded by Health Insurance. I didn't get the bottom row done, that would have brought the cost up to mid $4s

I was very happy with the result. Unlike the ones I had as a kid which were excruciatingly painful, these didn't hurt at all. I hate my retainer, but it would be a total waste if I stop using it..
