I bought a "reconditioned" smeg microwave from graysonline once.

The light didnt work, one of the feet had fallen off, oh and it didnt heat anything at all.

Obviously they didnt actually recondition the item as advertised and I got a refund. But the fact that the microwave could be in such poor condition does show the quality of the item. And the subsequent reviews I read about the microwave confirmed the problems were very common.

Compare that to my whisper quiet bosch dishwasher which has been perfect for 5 years. Or my bosch fridge which has been perfect mechanically speaking. But I overloaded 2 plastic door shelves and they broke. Something like $120 each to replace the little plastic shelves lol so they have never been replaced. Item also 5 years old.

    Bosch definitely the better brand.

We did our kitchen and used a smeg freestanding stove/oven, wife was really happy with it, didn't have any issues, but 9months isn't long enough to judge... Put in a Bosch dishwasher, also really happy with it.

Many consumer surveys/reports woyld indicate that Smeg is operating off a premium brand image & looks rather than a reliable product.

I'd buy Bosch over Smeg anyday as the the premium to purchase the later is excessive & not matched by performance or reliability once doing some investigation. If it is about looks & brand name, in some instances Smeg gets the "looks" category & only a marginal difference in brand name marketing image.

Good to know. Looking at doing the kitchen in our home next year so been looking at what brands to consider/rule out. Bosch was already on my list.

Hoping to get one brand for everything so need one that is good for all appliances. Any other brands people love/hate?

That is a great look. No gas where I am so I'll be going induction however, not going to get gas bottles.

I'll vote another +1 for Bosch- dishwasher hasn't missed a beat and cleans better than our old F&P. Happy shopping :)

@Jacque trying to get this in the tender for one of my developments, budget permitting. It just steals the show in the kitchen. :)

My Miele dishwasher was terrible. Cost a packet. Lasted 3 years and a call out at least once a year. Very noisy. The Bosch replacement is a fraction of the price and still quietly chugging along.

Renting you could go the Bosch High end, or just mid range westinghouse.

Couple things I've learned over time:
If you can afford to, renovate ASAP, the increased rent is worthwhile.
Install mid range items (high end depending on area). Its never worthwhile installing cheap items that break, it will end up costing you more in call out fees.

Fysher & Paykel used here for everything except the dishwasher. Solid and reliable.

Bosch 90cm Series 8 5 Zone Induction Cooktop

Any feedback on the above cooktop? We're looking for a second option if the PITT cooktop gets a bit too expensive. Link below.

    Thanks
