I have. Good insight into life and sounds like he would have made a great drinking partner.

I watched Gone Girl last night and liked it for a Friday night veg out. I haven't read the book though. I kept giggling when "Barney" was getting ....

Last year I read The Book Thief and loved it, but was very disappointed in the movie. I started another book by the same author but couldn't get into it. About the cards.

    I'm currently devouring:

"BOLD: How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World" by Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler at the moment.

    So good.

    Hi Angel,

I gave up after a few pages as well. It is so poorly written.

I haven't read any Bukowski, but I really liked John Fante's Ask The Dust.

My all-time favourite books are Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies, the first two books in Hilary Mantel's trilogy on Thomas Cromwell. Both are just fantastically written.

Oddly enough, I've never really taken to any of her other books. Not really sure why, but they just don't grab me.

On the other hand I do regularly re-read the above two books. Can't wait until the third one is released!!

Currently reading (on days I take the train)

You Are Not So Smart by David McRaney.

It explains how your brain tricks you into acting the way you do, quite interesting. I'm only 60 pages in out of 300 but I'd recommend it already.

Started reading Ask The Dust, enjoying it. Doesn't come close to Chinaski, though.

Anyone else read Cormac McCarthy and find him a bit hit and miss? I liked The Road, No Country For Old Men, The Border Trilogy and absolutely loved Blood Meridian, but I've read a few of his others and they were... quite boring, actually.

Speaking of The Road, who else watched the movie adaptation which to me, can only be described as an absolutely horrific failure?

The only one I have read is The Road, which is one of few books I would give 5/5. His others don't appeal to me much (I'm a postapocalyptic /dystopia freak). Yeah, agree the movie mutilated it :(

Toon, check out Blood Meridian, it's really good. Hyper violent. Makes Quentin Tarantino's movies look like Snow White, hahaha.

I bought both my sisters these books (different one for each of them) and some colouring pencils, pastels etc. They love them. Makes a nice gift I think.

I'm currently reading Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. Based on a true story it's about the last woman to be hanged (for murder) in Iceland in1829. Hannah Kent has spun a beautiful tale against the cold, harsh backdrop of remote farm life.
