For those wondering why there’s has been a sudden increase in Verbal Diarrhea from me it’s due to the excitement of finally being able to see the IPad clearly again thanks to my $5 reading glasses from Chemist Warehouse:).

Strange. I hadn't noticed any variation. Must be the meds I'm still taking.

I also have the same view (perhaps problem). If I didn’t I wouldn’t be so engaged.

I was just trying to be soothing

I hold mostly a200/vgs/afi but have bki and mlt in my partners name. My goal was to get 300k into each lic and retire my partner from work. My style is buy and forget i did my research at the beginning when everything looked good. Guess things change its a bit sad how lics have bummed out. I didnt know about MLT’s removal of the ASX TSR benchmark from its monthly NTA performance.

What etfs do you guys mostly hold for the long haul?

This is the problem when the discussion is dominated by those of us investing nerds interested in the pursuit of “optimal”. There’s nothing wrong with the LICs you’ve chosen and certainly nothing to be sad about. There’s no shortage of retirees living well off LIC dividends. Of course you could simply dump it all in the popular index ETFs VAS & VGS which is probably the simplest path possible guaranteed to give local and international market returns. But different investors invest for different reasons both financially and psychologically.

Thornhill bashing has also become another popular theme in recent times. Yes there are some flaws in his views but given he’s earning $400 - 500K pa in dividends with a significant amount of it from his LICs the plan still ain’t a bad one.

Take others views on board but then choose your own path.

Don’t let the dream of a perfect plan get in the way of a good plan
LIC’s still are still fine, ETF’s may or may not be better for you, but that’s for YOU to decide.

The YOU raises an interesting perspective.

YOU are not required to justify your decisions to anyone but yourself.

YOU are not paying anything to read an opinion, no matter how informative or interesting, so the value may be exactly what YOU pay.

No one on here is going to provide YOU with a Statement of Advice under the FOFA.

In the meantime my optimal plan is to go and buy another set of Elixer Lights. Stupidly did it again thinking I was tuning the High E was actually tuning the G. Ping she went.

I guess Elixir can't steal the D'Addario approach of having individually coloured balls on the ends, but now the days of individual wax paper envelopes are behind us, someone should be able to come up with another solution...

So true. Use 9's D'Addario on the Gibby.

The tragic part the darn Elixir things cost around $30. Do people in power realise it means I have less money available to plonk down on DUI? I mean that is at least 6 shares forgone. Woe is me.

9s on a Gibson? Eek. In the end I got sick of having different gauges for everything so I went 10s across all scale lengths, but they're just a leetle too loose for me on the LP. But I'll get used to it. I'd be snapping 9 high Es like ... hmm ..something that snaps really easily. :(

With the recent run-up to close to nta I've sold off my bki holdings. I have held it for years, and in the early days was happy with it.
I'm a bit agnostic about the underperformance vs index, as they have been transparent on their investing style, and generally stuck to the portfolio.

However, the amount of misbehaviour going on, from externalising and raising the expense ratio, the dilutive capital raise and the changes in what and how they report were a bridge too far. I've been waiting until we get close to nta to dispose, and here we are.

I've also been needing to increase the international asset allocation in my super, so it will probably get redeployed into vgs.

So I note that Rob Millner just reached into his wallet and bought himself another 1,000,000 BKI shares.

Personally or on behalf of various related entities? Some have a habit of doing that.

LOL. It's all relative (almost a pun.)

I haven't looked to see who bought what but it did remind me one Director didn't participate in the capital raising yet probably is a Director of a related company which is also a shareholder. So..... I guess wouldn't prevent that related company participating or even exercising voting rights even if a Director of a company board abstained.

Some term it control of both a direct or indirect nature.
