Check with your card/point provider, Bpay usually means it is a cash advance and they do not give points for anything considered a cash advance usually.

ok i sussed it out. B pay is fine (it's not considered cash advance) so you will earn points but you can only generally use mastercard / visa. where as using auspost Billpay you can pay via paypal which can have your amex linked earning you more points.

Yes, you need to check each provider, I know that some wont allow this, can I ask what card/points is your one that allows ?

most likely correct would be different per bank. mine just said a "cash advance" would have to have a bsb and normal 8-12 account number. i've pm'd you the answer to your other question.

    Cheers, Elives

Some councils and utility companies don't take payment via credit card. Only a minority.

Yeah, I know, now only if we can get them to refuse all other types of payment, we will all be right.

Shoalhaven Council doesn't accept credit card payments for their rates for some reason.

If you goto the Aus Post BillPay website you can pay via PayPal which lets you link your Amex, Visa and MasterCard. No surcharge

No worries, I'll take a looksee.
Says 1% surcharge on the bill, but I guess you avoid that with Paypal.

Yeah I didn't think it would work but I have done it about 5 times now and never paid a surcharge. Only issue is account keeping as the credit card statement will just say PayPal $x.xx
