    Pretty sure by now most of you would have heard....
    After 27-years and 3 kids, they now all it quits.
    He is 65 and she is 55, not entirely young.
    Given that he got married when he was 38, I thought they would know what they want and can have a nice long marriage. Alas it is not to be.

    They said "we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives". Pretty sad isnt it.

    They also said they will keep working together on philanthropic efforts, but the property settlement will be enormous wont it?

    The other side of the coin is, being the world’s fourth richest person, Bill Gates will now be the most eligible bachelor in the world! Not sure about her.

    I was surprised as they seemed to have a very functional relationship - working together on joint passions and muttering along pretty well and content with their lot - which is a lot better than most marriages after nearly 30 years.

    Only time will tell as, if all is good in the relationship (I'm not talking hot lust but rather a stable, affectionate and honest partnership), a breakup is usually caused by one party leaving something - or - going to something else

    I see the point you are making, but in this context it is surely the more well known partner that ends up owning the title.

    Kinda like how it was the Paris Hilton sex tape, not the guy she sept with.

    Not always gender specific :)

    If I find out that Bill Gates has had an affair I will not be happy. In the past Bill has said he's only leaving 10M to each of his 3 kids but now Melinda will likely get 40B in a divorce settlement so the kids might inherit more now

    he even advocates climate change but Gates is one of the super emitters due to his jet travel. I know petty, but just saying.....

    They probably got sick of each other locked down together for so long in 2020. A lot of marriages broke down last year
