    @Otie and @Ghoti

I skipped Narre W for "social" issues and suggested Packy, but is that warranted?

As those closer to the ground, your thoughts of NW, NW Sth?

Hampton Prk has "quietened down" (I have friends there) but you'd still need to get ot a staiotn....

NW/ Narre Sth is fine but you won’t get much for under 600k nowadays. Social issues are an issue in the cramped newer estates but I don’t think they are as huge an issue as the media makes out, paky would be no different. I think Hampton Parks a bit over priced, never really liked it but it is good being central to Dandy for those who work that way. I just see Paky as better value than the Narre’s and better day access if you choose the right estate.

Altona Meadows is not a bad option. Has less crime rate than the suburbs you mentioned in your post.

I'd look at Ferntree Gully if using train to cbd but not if driving. Land locked suburb with lifestyle Dandenongs at your doorstep. Not too far to Knox for major shopping & centre being expanded.
Otherwise Narrre Warren close to FTG shopping centre (2nd? Largest in australia I believe), train access to cbd and also close to Monash feeeway expansion for driving places.
Also no mention of schools requirement so not considered.
    Good luck with the search.

Isn't FTG well over $600k already? I've always liked the area, too late to invest in now :(

I'd also go ferntree gully, but it would be very tight if it's a strict 600k budget..

i'd even look further down the train line toward belgrave (ie. upper ferntree gully, upwey) as of the suburbs mentioned it would have the safest feel and very pleasant community living.. Moroolbark is also quite nice and within budget

having grown up in the south east, I'd avoid noble park and frankston north.. keysborough is probably out of budget.. can't say too much about the other areas you've mentioned as i don't know them as intimately

Reviving an old post, but in similar situation now, looking for PPOR-600k around NW,NW-south,Berwick etc. Any suggestions. New to melbourne, what are "social issues" in Narre warren? Has it improved? and how is safety around pakenham?

I know several families down NW way - all seem pretty happy.
Also know a dude down in Packy, and he's happily built his home (albeit took a loooooong time).

Been quite a few posts on Berwick from memory - would be worth searching on.

For 600K, 3 bedder house with land, I'd be looking at St Albans. I work in the city and from door to door I am in the office within 45 minutes by train from Ginifer Station.

Apart from safety, how important is school, shopping, parks and public transport to you?

Have you experienced any safety issues in St. Albans?
