If my wife had her way it would be before, after and during.

Before and after - I thought this would be quite common to clean before guests come around?

I'm sorry sir this bathroom is closed for cleaning. Try the one downstairs. If the line is too long I suggest the third tree on right out the back.

Hire a venue for kids parties, has everything needed, 90 euro for 4 hours and they do all the cleaning, we bring all the food and drink. Usually split it with another kid so 45 euro. Haven't hosted any party in my home in the last 20 years...

I've hosted more children's parties than I can count. Parties, sleepovers, movie nights, dinners--you name it. Mine are now past teen years, but still we've had friends sleeping over for the last couple of weeks. We have spare beds galore, so it's like an open house.

Yes we have an open house too. All kids have spare beds on wheels under their beds for constant sleepovers.

There were 7 on Friday night so they used the lounge.

I love it, I had that growing up too.

    No shoes in my house.

One, it's gross. Two, polished floors and a cashmere rug in the hallway.

Yes, @Xenia I had a lounge suite purpose made to turn into three beds for the kids' sleepovers. Also we have spare double bed and an antique daybed with mattress. Even our German shepherd sleeps on a mattress with a sheet on the floor in the hallway. It's good when they get older though, as they can remake the couches on their own and they go out for breakfast!

@Bran we also don't have shoes in the house. Just feels cleaner.

I spent half of my childhood on a farm - same deal (cow manure carpets anyone?). I never wear shoes inside, meanwhile the wife will which still irks me to this day.

Besides keeping the floor clean, I find it a lot more comfortable.

    Sounds gorgeous.

I would do that too if I had nice flooring. We have slate, I hate it :( polished timber floors in next house, that's my favourite.

Actually... It's a 90 something year old house with the original hardwood timber floors. Quaint but not too fancy. The rug probably shouldn't be in the hallway, but we saw it in a shop in Maleny and had to have it.

After spending almost $15K in our PPOR recently on new carpet there's no way I let dirty shoes enter my house :D As for cleaning, isn't it just a constant drag?! Before, after, during.... there's only about 100 things I'd rather be doing any day of the week!
