Good luck with anything in sydney (yeah, it's a big place and not all area's are the same)

But it seems to be a tradies market !
I recently had to get some internal glass balustrauding (due to bub)
Sent out 2 inquiries, one thru Google the other a recommendation.
    Neither replied
So Google again and sent out a further 6 contact us/emails
Two replies out of 8, only one showed up as organised to quote o_O
Needed it as bub is near to crawling, so paid deposit.
A week later I get a number off an agent I know, they reply and come in $1,035 cheaper on a $3,500 job  (and a further $3k cheaper on external balustrauding).......
    Feeling like a sucker

Still, have been trying to find a tiler and other trades for my bathroom and ensuite reno for 2 years now, it still hasn't been touched :( (south syd area)

When in a bind I've used serviceseeking.com.au I always ask for a quote fist and meet a few people but I've met trades that I've gone on to work with (as PM) for years and years. I've also met trades that I wouldn't be confident actually knows one end of a hammer from the other but, you have to take the good with the bad!

Depends how you want to approach things. Outource everything or outsource some stuff only.

    You can engage a company to do the entire thing - top to toe. They will take care of the demolition/strip out , and they will manage the trades ;

    waterproofing
    tiling
    electrical/lighting
    silicone
    showers/glass
    vanities/joinery/mirrors etc
Some will even offer to provide the toilet, vanities, bath ( if applicable) tapware - I wouldnt go down this path.

or you can source the materials ( toilet, vanities, bath, tiles, shower, tapware etc) and hire the trades individually - ie project manage it yourself. This will save you a bit of money, but it will also require your time and attention . This is my preferred method, but Im self employed and can be on site daily.

Having recently renovated 3 bathrooms and 1 laundry ( and the rest of the house ) I can tell you that Airtasker can be very handy too - especially for the demolition stuff.

If you'd like to PM me I am happy to discuss all the trades I used.... and the places I got the tapware, baths, shower screens, tiles etc...

Im Sydney based so it would be relevant to you

How have you found air tasker? I've looked on there but feel it's a big gamble. the prices are usually to cheap to expect the job finished let alone half decent

I only used it for demolition work.... had my bathrooms, floors, etc stripped at less than half the cost of professional companies who do the same work.

I'd worry about quotes like that - pay 1½ times the cost at the end of the day. 50%on first guy, then 100% again on what they left/stuffed up.
