As the title says, you may have seen my recent possum house in the squatter thread.

I'm curious to know what others might have failed dismally in.

Here is my attempt at creating my sons birthday cake - Captain Barnacles from the Octonauts. I promise this is not a joke.

    WHAT I WAS AIMING FOR:

... and maybe some sort of therapy afterwards :p

(And good on you for trying. I never ever tried anything like that. Iced cake on the weekends was the most adventurous I ever managed and as the boys got older they would help me . Birthday cakes came from the store where I knew there would be an edible result that wouldn't scare the children :D.)

Forgot to add that initially I thought the first photo was yours and I was pretty impressed.

Did you ice it while the cake was still warm? Also it may havebeen that icing was too runny when you bettered it on? I am sure it still tastes yumm!

    I thought it was cooked.

Though if it was raw, it might explain some things.

If your son is only 1 or 2 years old he probably won't even notice the difference anyway, good effort :)

Yes - I bought the wrong icing.

I don't think he noticed. But it was about the time the nightmares started. I actually managed to resurrect it somewhat as my wife burst into tears (she was responsible for the decorating). Ill try find the photo

Nothing beats a store bought mud cake, with homemade rocky road (melt chocolate, add gummies, marshmallows, nut - if you're kids like them) poured over the top.

Then stand back as they try and jackhammer their way through the chocolate layer :D

My other specialty is store bought iced mud cake surrounded with Roses' chocolates, or M&Ms, or whatever lolly the recipient prefers

I remember when this story came out. We all had an initial gasp and "what has she done?" moment, but I guess if the church has turned it around and is now making money, that is the silver lining?

A good opaque icing for next birthday, in a dry bowl, a cup of icing sugar, add juice of quarter of an orange, and leave for fifteen minutes, mix it a bit to get the lumps out, then with a spatula, smooth onto the cake. (Lick) .... Wipe the spatula
Leave it sit for half a day, then add lollies for face and smile. A musk stick, microwaved for 1 seconds should bend around the edge of a bowl makes a reasonable smile!
    No Crying!
ps I balls up official , important documents:oops:
    I hope this helps
