Based on the article provided these are believed to be the top beaches for 2019.

    Metropolitan top 10
    1. Cottesloe, Perth, Western Australia

    2. Noosa Main Beach, Sunshine Coast, Queensland

    3. Yarra Bay, Sydney, New South Wales

    4. Port Noarlunga, Adelaide, South Australia

    5. Freshwater, Sydney, New South Wales

    6. Portsea, Mornington peninsula, Victoria

    7. Bondi, Sydney, New South Wales

    8. Balmoral, Sydney, New South Wales

Perth Beaches Best in Australia - National Vote Says

Where is your favourite beach? Are the best beaches really located in metropolitan areas? Is Perth even the beach capital? Despite not having typically boiling hot weather, I think Victoria offers the best beaches.

I haven’t visited all Australian beaches so can’t compare with other states. But for NSW Bondi is my least favorite. Prefer more suburban feel - Maroubra, Mona vale, Palm beach etc. Jan Juc in Vic is also nice, but I haven’t visited most beaches in Vic to decide on favourites o_O

This is one of the few that I would rate as one of the best beaches in Australia ,and if there is never more the ten people on the beach winter time even less..

Plus one of the few free-hold caravan parks left most were bought out by the Tweed Shire Council ..

Pfft.... not even a single beach from around the Great Barrier Reef..... which has many pure white beaches with coral reef accessible swimming from shore....

Esperence in WA wins hands down.

    Cottesloe is nothing special.

The article was for city beaches.

I don't know how you chose - I reckon you can't go past the Newcastle beaches. Only problem is the infrastructure right on the beach (lack of cafes etc) which is slowly being fixed.

They are as good - if not better - than Bondi, without the crowds. Nobby's you literally leave the beach and within a block are right in the low-rise city.

Bondi by far is not the best beach in Sydney. There are so many that are better. Lazy journalism.

That looks like a swimming pool Mick! Where are the waves?
    Beautiful turquoise coloured water though.

No waves at this one. Just up the road though if that is your thing.

As Lizzie said, the story is about metropolitan beaches. There are plenty of great regional beaches of course. Not sure why Yarra Bay in Sydney is on that list. It's not that special. And a beach without waves is not a beach - it's just a bit of shoreline.

I grew up living a few doors up from Bronte Beach, a great surfing beach, IMHO the best in Sydney. Hard to believe all those years ago I was pretty good surfer ... :D
