Not all other parties want to destroy wealth. The Lib Dems are a free market driven party. Far more than the Libs.

I'd like to see a statesperson and not someone who's sole motivation is just to stay in power.

    For example, ... *tumbleweeds*

But the entire system shapes the behaviours. Three years in not sufficient time to implement policy that might be unpalatable in the short term but necessary for the future. That in itself is not the entire problem, but now in the age of instant reaction and online media, the self-preservation instinct is overwhelmingly dominant for elected officials. Turns them all into posturing chimps.

I will be supporting Lib Dems, but I can only vote for them myself if they offer a candidate in my electorate, Peter Dutton's seat anyone? They are currently actively recruiting candidates and supporters, although you would never have heard of them if you follow the mainstream media.

We had this conversation a few pages ago on this thread.

Given they get such a small percentage of the vote, seems like a wasted vote?

If I recall correctly from the interview I watched with their leader, I understand they are going for the Senate and strategise a voting block with some of the other independents.

Yep. Limited electoral success, but looking likely they'll make a greater impact this federal election. They'll be running candidates in many more seats than before and may even hold the balance of power in the senate. The Libs are leaking votes at the moment.

Its all pretty depressing. As much as I hate the Libs for their social policies, and the Nats for being ******* crazy, Labor simply isnt offering anything voteworthy.

I really wish there were another significant party that wasnt as extreme as the Greens.

I haven't put the major parties high in the preferences for a very long time...

Unlikely. They are a fringe party, worse than the Greens on crackpot policy content.

Each to their own. That's the great thing about democracy.

I doubt he'll go. He has too many important things to not do in Australia. Either way, there's a blow up brewing between the Libs and Nats on climate.

The idea that parties (other than the Greens maybe) want to 'destroy wealth' is a bit odd. Even if you take the most 'radical' of Labor's historical policies it's still just tinkering around the edges of mainstream capitalism. With respect, the Lib Dems are a fringe party with radical (some might say lunatic) views most Australians would run a mile from.

I think climate change and a federal ICAC are two pretty vote worthy policies. But let's be honest, the options are tweedle dee and tweedle dum, which is why I think we will see quite a few independents get up. If I was Frydenberg, Hunt, Sharma, Zimmerman or Taylor I'd be a bit nervous.

If @thunderstrike888 would run, he would win.

He has amazing predictions that seem to be on the money.

If he can see the property market so we'll, he should have NO problems with China, pandemic, protest or DV.

    He'd get my vote

Not in Australia. With preferential voting, one can put their first preference for a small party of their choice, with a second preference going toward a major party. The vote will show in the percentage of support for the lower party, but the vote ends up being counted for or against the winning candidate.

Yep a wasted vote as it ultimately flows to one of the major parties unless it gets exhausted beforehand.

So ultimately, every vote is wasted.

It doesn't matter who you vote for, a politician gets elected.

Basically correct, the agenda may change but the knowledge base ie public servants implementing policy remain the same.

    Same same but different.

Do public servants really serve the public?

    Yes.

"Service" is used in the same sense as when a stallion services a mare.

Most people I know, don't hold Politicians in high esteem.
It simply is trying to pick the lesser evil!

I think it's probably impossible for parties to be more moderate and implement the best policies overall form all sides without losing much of their base.

So essentially, it's the public who screw themselves and the pollies are just playing the game to be employed with perks. I reckon most pollies know a lot better but don't have the political power to implement much else without risk being ousted. No sane pollie puts the well-being of the public before their own family's.

So the game continues round and round we go.
