Time to bring the money home, we are getting close to 30% profit just on exchange. amazing returns.

I hope there are plenty out there that are converting US$ and making pots of money:)

Good on you, where do you live again?

Most of my money are in aud unfortunately, waiting for it to go back up so Amazon shopping is way cheaper. Maybe not for a while :D

Imagine going on an overseas holiday when the Au$ tanked. We have had a dream run in recent years, coming to a grinding halt. Perhaps its now time for holidays in Australia:)

Leaving your run a little late but buying VTS, IJH, IXJ, DJRE, WDIV etc gives good exposure to US denominated companies.

yes, I think its mostly too late to cash in on further weakness in the AUD to the USD.
Even if it goes from 74 [ about where it is now] to 70, that only about 5.7% or so. Taking into account any transaction fees, uncertainty and risk that it may not go to that level, id say 5.7% is not worth it. Would have been 2 years back when the AUD was higher, but then so would have Sydney.

This is good news to me . I read an article in today's FR that many expect the $A to go to around $65 against the U.S. Or possibly lower .

Industry's such as tourism , mining , agriculture and others need this to be more competitive IMO .

0.65 is going to hurt the bulk of people. Time to buy shares i the miners who are locked in to unrealised USD contracts.

Anyone buying imports will be savaged.

I bought some shares in 2011 in the U.S., across two trades, I think the average exchange rate was about $1AUD to $1USD. The shares have made good gains recently so when it comes time to bring home the bacon I should have the dual forces of currency and share appreciation working in my favor. But it seems too premature to do it now, you'd be leaving money on the table by not waiting for the U.S. to get back into solid growth (which can't be that far away now). Also it's a good hedge in case China ever takes a tumble - this alone may be reason enough to never bring it home unless you really need it. Just leave it over there for a rainy day.
